MAINE MENDOZA LEADS HOSTS AND HEADHUNTERS OF NEW TV5 TALENT SEARCH FOR PINOY BOY & GIRL BANDS, 'POPINOY'

MAINE MENDOZA will now be seen at lunchtime on GMA-7 in “Eat Bulaga” and on Sunday evening in TV5’s new talent search, “PoPinoy”. So how does it feel to work with TV5?

“I’m so happy in my new environment and to be given the chance to work with other artists.” she says at the zoom presscon TV5 hosted for her and her co-host, Paolo Ballesteros.

“This is my second big show after ‘Eat Bulaga’ at sabay ko silang gagawin.”

How is it hosting a talent show?

“This is something different from Eat Bulaga. As hosts, we’d be less casual, more formal, hindi na kami puedeng basta ta-tumbling o magi-split. We should help the contestants in their journey, para pakalmahin sila kung tense sila.

"I’m also very thankful na sa dinami-dami ng mga host, isa ko sa napili dito. Kami lang dito ni Kuya Pao, e sa Eat Bulaga, marami kami.”

How is “PoPinoy” different from other talent shows?

“Ang daming talent shows pero iba ito, kasi solo-solo lang yung iba, ito grupo. We are looking for two groups, a boy band and a girl group. I’m really happy to be part of TV5’s biggest talent search. We’ve met some of the contestants sa taping at very promising sila.”

What advice will she give them?

“Basta I will tell them to just be yourself, don’t be afraid to show your talent and pagdating sa stage, itodo nyo na kasi ito na yung chance nyo and this is a competition, wala ng take 2.”

What are the qualities she would look for in the contestants?

“Unang-una, yung charisma, X factor. Tapos yung creativity, yung passion nila for what they do. Ang kailangan, yung galing sa puso ang ginagawa and they should always try to be professional.

"At dahil grupo ito, dapat ding maging magaling silang team player and okay ang team work nila.”

Along with Maine and Paolo, “PoPinoy” also features what they call the Headhunters, who will act as judge and mentors to the contestants and help them in their journey to become the ultimate PoPinoy idols.

These are r&b singer Jay-R, musical theatre star Kayla Rivera, her Majesty Maja Salvador and dancer DJ Loonyo. They all performed solo numbers before the Q&A portion of the presson started.

Kayla sang the Broadway song “Defying Gravity”, Jay-R sang his new single “Seryoso”, Maja did a perky song and dance number, while DJ Loonyo did a dance number.

Maja now have two shows on TV5, the nightly dramedy "Nino Nina" and "PoPinoy" on Sunday nights.

“PoPinoy” will have a primer on June 6, Sunday, 8 PM, to be followed by its grand launch on June 13. It will show that Pinoy talents can give foreign bands a run for their money.

See how upcoming boy bands and girl groups vie for the top spot to be the ultimate Pinoy Pop idols in this parallel competition.

Filipinos have consistently shown that we are indeed world-class when it comes to musical talent.  PoPinoy is set to show the world that the next global pop sensation may just come from our shores, by combining cutting-edge production, a rigid selection and training process, and A-list hosts and judges.

Viewers can also watch upcoming supporting content for PoPinoy while waiting for the main show on weekends: “Idols of Pinoy Pop: Manila Sound to KPop”, a documentary by Lourd de Vera on June 6 at 8PM on TV5 and 9:30PM on Colours.

“PoPinoy All Access”, a streaming show that will air on weekdays, across all TNT and Popinoy’s social media platforms, will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes, auditions, and an all-access backstage pass.

“POPDates,” a recap show of the day’s highlights will air on weekdays at 9:30PM beginning June 14, both hosted by Anikka dela Cruz.

Later on, watch “PoPinoy UpClose,” a chat-musical with interviews featuring those who made it to the Top 10, will premiere on July 9 at 9:30PM on Colours,

“Journey to the Finish,”  a more intimate  feature-focus show on each of the Top 3 girl-and-boy groups, will premiere on October 9, 9:30PM, both hosted by Adrianna So.

To help mount PoPinoy, TV5 is teaming up with telco brand TNT, which has been known for championing local talent and Pinoy pride.

"Through our partnership with TV5, we aim to give our talented artists a platform to shine and fulfill their dreams while celebrating our original and rapidly-evolving Pinoy Pop music." said Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

TNT will also launch its online show, TNT POP Show, hosted by Asia’s Pop Heartthrob, Darren Espanto, which will feature exclusive PoPinoy content such as behind-the-scenes, interesting stories by aspirants, and fun games, among others.
