THE BIG HOLLYWOOD releases have started with “Logan”, followed by “Kong, Skull Island”. Next will be “Beauty and the Beast” on March 16, a live version of the animated hit which featured hit songs like “Be My Guest” and the title song itself. This stars Emma Watson (Hermione of Harry Potter) as Beauty and Dan Stevens (of “Downton Abbey”) as the Beast, with Luke Evans as Gaston.
“Power Rangers” opens on March 23. It started as a TV series in the 90s (a great favorite of our grandson then) featuring the red, yellow, pink and blue rangers. There were other movie versions before like “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” in 1995 and “Turbo: A Power Rangers” movie in 1997, but this one promises to be the biggest, with a cast of talented newcomers.
“Ghost in the Shell” opens on March 30, an adaptation of the hit Masamune Shirow manga series with Scarlett Johansson as the heroine, a cyborg policewoman who fights a dangerous hacker. Scarlett has the personal approval of the Japanese creators of the animated versions.
“The Fast & The Furious 8: The Fate of the Furious” opens on April 14. Vin Diesel is back as Dominic Toretto, lured into a world of crime by a mysterious beautiful woman, Charlize Theron. The latest sequel will see them in a worldwide adventure from Cuba to New York to the Arctic Sea. It’s said that this new movie will be a springboard into a new franchise that will move the stories from being heist capers to spy sagas. More coming Hollywood movies later.
