ANNE CURTIS’ last movie was “The Gifted” two years ago. Her only exposure these days is in “Showtime”, so it’s really high time for her to do a new movie, “Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo, May Boyfriend?”, produced by the IdeaFirst Company of Perci Intalan and Jun Lana for Viva Entertainment. She’s paired for the first time with Dennis Trillo and Paolo Ballesteros in a controversial and different kind of romantic comedy.
“There were offers naman to me, I read about 4 or 5 scripts, but wala akong nagustuhan,” she says. “Until this project came nga and I think it’s worth the long wait for me. I like it kasi naiiba siya ng klaseng love triangle. Sa script pa lang, natawa na ako, hindi ko maibaba until I read it in full. And in real life, totoo naman yun, ang daming guwapo, mga maskulado, then malalaman mo, gay pala. Tapos first time ko rito to work with Dennis and Paolo who are both with GMA, and also with Jun Lana as our director, so I accepted it. So yung fans na tanong nang tanong sa’kin when my next movie will be, heto na po yun and I think it’s the right project for me.”
But she was surprised when the first scene she shot with Dennis was a kissing taken from different angles. “Nabigla ako kasi, bakit yun agad? But they explained namang para ma-break the ice agad kami ni Dennis and it worked kasi comfortable na kami agad sa isa’t isa. At first, we felt awkward, pero dahil may pinagawang nakakatawa sa akin while we’re kissing, umokey naman agad. Umuungol-ungol kasi ako while kissing. Ha ha ha!”
So how is it working with Dennis? “I got excited kasi I know he’s a very good actor. Sobrang I can feel na may chemistry kami and I hope it will come out well on screen.”
How about with Paolo? “Magkalaban ang noontime shows namin, di ba? But nagkahulihan agad kami ng loob. Siya ang ex-boyfriend ko in the story. But it turned out closet queen pala siya. Tapos, boyfriend ko si Dennis, ikakasal na kami, then I learned may nakaraan pala silang dalawa.”
So she doesn’t have a gaydar and wasn’t able to detect the connection between Dennis and Paolo? “In real life, yes, malakas ang gaydar ko. E, sa showbiz, di ba araw-araw nakapaligid sa’king katrabaho ko, puro gays. From Vice Ganda pa lang and the make up artists, P.A.’s, puro gay, so paanong hindi lalakas ang gaydar ko?”
All her close friends are getting married, like Georgina WIlson, Solenn Heussaff and Isabelle Daza are getting married? What about her? Is it true her relationship with Erwan Heussaff has gotten sour? “No, it’s still going strong. Baka in three years, more or less, we’ll see. Six years na kami together, e. But we’re not in a rush as we’re happy naman where we are right now. We’re both busy with our careers, so huwag nyo kaming madaliin. The right time for that will come naman.”
How does she feel when writers say her sister Jasmine Curtis Smith, who got lots of positive acclaim for “Imagine You and Me”, is a better actress than her? “Of course, I’m proud of her. She’s my baby and I’m so happy for her when people text me or tweet me to say she did a great job. It’s inevitable for people to compare us with each other. Uso naman sa showbiz ang ganun, di ba? But I’m not affected. Whatever negative things people say or write about me, di ako affected kasi I’ve learned the art of deadma.”
