Lovi Poe Knows How To Let Go Of The Past, Unlike Her Character In 'Sana Dati'

LOVI POE gives a very good portrayal as a bride about to get married to TJ Trinidad but has second thoughts about her decision when she meets Paulo Avelino in “Sana Dati”, winner of the best picture in the Directors Showcase division in the recent CineMalaya filmfest. TJ won as best supporting actor but Lovi didn’t win as best actress despite the good reviews she got for her performance. Was she somehow disappointed?

“No, I was up against THE Vilma Santos, so ano ba naman ang laban ko, di ba?” she says. “At saka sa ngayon, mas maganda yung you do not expect. When I first won sa CineMalaya as best actress for ‘Mayohan’, hindi ko rin inaasahan yun at mas maganda ang feeling na di ka nage-expect at all, tapos binigay sa iyo. But I really love my role in ‘Sana Dati’ as Andrea, a woman who can’t seem to let go of her past with a videographer, played by Benjamin Alves. She’s at the crossroads and cannot make a final decision, but she’s so lucky that her groom, TJ Trinidad, is so considerate and supportive of her kaya sa ending, sa final scene, makikita nyong she has finally moved on.”

In real life, is she also like Andrea, finding it hard to let go of the past? “No, I’m not like that. For me, pag tapos na, move on. Past is past.”

Just like with ex-BF Ronald Singson? “Yes, hindi na kami nagkabalikan, we’ve both moved on, but he’ll always be part of my past.”

“Sana Dati” is an entry in the Hawaii International Filmfest from October 17 to 21 and she has already asked permission from GMA-7 to allow her to attend it. She’d have to do some advance tapings for her two shows, the daily soap “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas” on GMA-7 and the Sunday drama, “Titser”, on GMA News Channel.

“Sana Dati” got an A from the Cinema Evaluation Board and also won the best director award for Jerrold Tarog in the last Cinemalaya awards night. It also won the awards for best sound (Roger TJ Ladro), best original music score (Jerrold Tarog), best editing (Pats Ranyo), best production design (Ericson Navarro) and best cinematography (Mackie Galvez). It opens tomorrow in theatres nationwide.
