Box Office Take Of Sineng Pambansa Entries Enough To Make Serious Local Film Lovers Cry

THE SINENG PAMBANSA put up by the Film Academy of the Philippines has come and gone and here’s the gross box office take of all the movies shown during its one-week run at 225 SM Cinema outlets all over the country. It's enough to make serious local film lovers cry.

As we all know by now, Joel Lamangan’s “Lihis” is the topgrosser, which is why it is extended, and it earned a total of P2.3 million. Mind you, it’s already the topgrosser but earned only a measly P2.3 million, which is peanuts compare to the earnings of mainstream movies made by Star Cinema that can gross up to P400 million if they hit the jackpot.

After “Lihis” is the late Celso Ad. Castillo’s horror flick, “Bahay ng Lagim”, which is just a guest entry. It earned P1.2 million. The rest is as follows: Peque Gallaga & Lore Reyes’ “Sonata” – P600,000. Elwood Perez’ “Otso” – P570,000. Mel Chionglo’s “Lauriana” – P400,000. Gil Portes’ “Tag-araw ni Twinkle” – P370,000. Maryo de los Reyes’ “Bamboo Flowers” – P200,000. Jose Javier Reyes’ “Ano ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” – P260,000. Chito Rono’s “Badil” – P170,000. Romy Suzara’s “Tinik” – P92,000. “Salvi” – P55,000. “Genghis Khan” (Manuel Conde’s classic 50s movie) – P12,000. Lino Brocka’s “Maynila: Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” – P8,000.
