MOTHER LILY announces that Regal Entertainment will definitely be more active in producing local films this year. First in line is “The Mommy Returns” (a pun on Brendan Fraser’s “The Mummy Returns”), their comedy-drama Mother’s Day presentation starring Ruffa Gutierrez, Gabby Concepcion, Pokwang and Jillian Ward.
Shooting now is “Boy Pickup” (co-prod with GMA Films) starring Ogie Alcasid, Dennis Trillo, Solenn Heussaff and Sam Pinto, with Dominic Zapata directing. This will be followed by “Bride and Lover” with Jennylyn Mercado and Lovi Poe as best friends falling for the same man, directed by Joel Lamangan. Also lined up is a movie pairing Marian Rivera of GMA with Coco Martin of ABS, to be helmed by Maryo de los Reyes. But we guess this would have to wait and we doubt if this could be done this year as Coco is still doing a movie with Angeline Quinto and later, with Judy Ann Santos.
Regal also got indie film directors to do movies for them: Marlon Rivera who megged “Babae sa Septic Tank”, Adolf Alix of “Donsol” and “Isda”, Tara Illenberger of “Brutus” and Alvin Yapan of “Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa”.
Marlon will do “Super Mao” starring JC Tiuseco, Ervic Vijandre, Isabelle Daza, Kerbie Zamora, Alodia Gosiengfiao and beauty queen Venus Raj in her movie debut. Tara Illenberger will direct the horror flick “Guni-Guni” starring Jennylyn Mercado and Isabelle Daza. Adolf Alix will direct Shaina Magdayao, Nikki Gil, Denise Laurel, Fabio Ide and JC Tiuseco in “Ride to Love”. Alvin will do “Love Affair” with Lovi Poe and Enrique Gil.
Roselle Monteverde says they will do the full movie version of “Pridyider”, which was just an episode in the very first “Shake, Rattle & Roll” directed by the late National Artist Ishmael Bernal. This will now be directed by Rico Ilarde and stars Janice de Belen (who’s in the original film), Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez and Daniel Matsunaga.
Jun Lana, who did hit horror films like “Kulam” and “Tarot”, will do another horror flick, “Hysteria”, starring Iza Calzado. Solenn Heussaff will be launched to stardom in “Misteryosa”, opposite Zanjoe Marudo, helmed by Richard Somes. Other projects are “Miss Impossible” with Rufa Mae Quinto, directed by Joyce Bernal, and “Desperado” with Martin Escudero, directed by Topel Lee. From the said casting, it’s easy to see that the movie projects of Regal are combining Kapuso, Kapamilya and Kapatid talents together.
