Anne Curtis relieved that her sister in Brisbane is not affected by Aussie flood

ANNE CURTIS is thankful that her older sister Kate and her family are safe despite the floods that inundated their place in Brisbane, Australia. “I got worried kasi maliliit pa yung apat na pamangkin ko but they’re now staying with a relative of my brother in law who lives in another place kaya okay na sila,” she says.

Anne’s mom lives in Melbourne, which is an hour and a half by plane from Brisbane, where the Gold Coast and Surfer’s Paradise are located.

We have four sisters who live in Sydney (they migrated in 1978) and we just want to tell our relatives here they’re okay as Sydney is one hour by plane to Brisbane. We went to the Gold Coast twice by land and it takes 10 to 12 hours on excellent highways. In Queensland, you’d notice in several towns that the houses are already on top of stilts. My brother in law, Michael Wilkins, who’s from Armidale, Queensland, explains it’s because flooding is very common in that area. The problem is it has never been this bad, with a land area as big as France and Germany combined affected by the floods.
