First VP and Head of International Operations Joseph Francia with ACE Head Jan Van Voorn and ACE Asia Pacific Regional Director Neil Gane

THIS IS GREAT NEWS from Los Angeles, California. At the meeting of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) Global Members Meeting in L.A., GMA Network received a warm reception from industry leaders for its notable anti-piracy initiatives.

Participants expressed their appreciation for GMA’s pro-active approach to combating piracy, emphasizing the network’s commitment to protecting intellectual property rights and fostering collaborative action on a global scale.

During the meeting, GMA Network’s Anti-Piracy Committee represented by First Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia, shared the network’s ongoing anti-piracy campaign, “Stream Responsibly. Fight Piracy.” which encourages Kapuso viewers around the world to access GMA programs only through legitimate streaming sites.

The communication tactics, featuring the cast of the hit series “Voltes V: Legacy” and Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, were well-received, showcasing the network’s dedication to raising awareness about the importance of legitimate content consumption.

Additionally, GMA Network highlighted its collaborations with other anti-piracy proponents in the Philippines, further solidifying its commitment to combating piracy in the country.

Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the Motion Picture Association and Head of ACE Jan Van Voorn commended the Kapuso network’s anti-piracy initiatives and recognized its significant contributions to the fight against piracy.

“We are really thankful for GMA being here in Los Angeles,” says Van Voorn.

“It’s really great to have them explain the new anti-piracy campaign in the Philippines, and making sure all the members of ACE can learn from that and replicate it in all other countries around the world.

“I think GMA really put something leading on the map and something people can learn from. The whole purpose of being with ACE is making sure we can learn from each other in order to do a good job in educating consumers while working with law enforcement and stakeholders around the world to impact piracy.”

Joined by 100 participants from member organizations, industry leaders also voiced their support for GMA’s anti-piracy endeavors. Neil Gane, ACE Asia Pacific Regional Director, acknowledged the passing of House Bill 7600 in the House of Representatives.

“A critical tool in the fight against piracy is site blocking, and we would like to congratulate Cong. Jose Salceda in the passing of House Bill 7600, and we are optimistic that the mere bill will be passed in the Senate and also into the law,” Gane says.

“We would also like to thank Director General Rowel Barba and his amazing team at the IPOPHL, which is very much becoming a gold standard in the Asia Pacific region.”

Isabel Haskey, Netflix Global Head of Content Protection also highlighted GMA Network’s role in the advocacy against piracy.

“We’ve been working with GMA on some important piracy initiatives in the Philippines, including lobbying for site blocking,” she says. “Working with them has made all the difference in getting the content protection tools that really matter and impact the piracy landscape.”

Don Jones, Director of Strategic Fraud Intelligence at Comcast, also lauded GMA’s anti-piracy efforts and their involvement in ACE.

“Seeing GMA join ACE is really magnificent,” he says. “It’s not until people get involved with ACE that we can actually do something about the problem.

"It’s very important for us to have not only our internal companies but our partners to be involved in the law enforcement side of this. Until we all come together and start enforcing our rights, we will continue to face the same problem.”

GMA Network’s anti-piracy initiatives reflect the network’s proactive stance and dedication to safeguarding intellectual property rights.

As a staunch advocate for legitimate content consumption, GMA Network continues to lead the fight against piracy and inspire collaboration and collective action among industry stakeholders.
