JANNO GIBBS ENJOYS PLAYING AN UNUSUAL SUPERHERO, 'MANG JOSE', BASED ON THE POPULAR SONG OF PAROKYA NI EDGAR

JANNO GIBBS plays the title role of “Mang Jose”, a superhero movie based on the hit song of Parokya ni Edgar about a superhero “na puedeng arkilahin at pagkatapos, bigla kang sisingilin.”

“It’s great to be back in a superhero role after ‘Pedro Penduko’,” he says. “This is my new Pedro Penduko.

"Wholesome action-comedy ito for the whole family. Direk Dan Villegas and Direk Antoinette Jadaone produced this and they bought the rights from Parokya. Medyo mahal, naubos ang budget namin dun sa song, but it’s worth it.”

The movie is a reunion for him and his original ka-love team, Manilyn Reynes, and also his wife, Bing Loyzaga.

“I personally requested Manilyn for this as it’s something different for her kasi siya ang main villain dito kay Mang  Jose. I also requested Bing kasi I really wanted the three of us together, dahil di pa nagagawa yung magkakasama kaming tatlo.

"First time namin ito and I it think it’s high time na magkasama-sama kami sa isang movie bago kami tumanda.”

So how is it?

“It’s always a pleasure working with Manilyn. Andami na naming nagawa before sa TV, but sa movie ngayon lang uli kami nagkasama and that makes ‘Mang Jose’ even more special.

"Si Bing naman plays the mother of Mikoy Morales. May ininom silang milk tea from Manilyn na may something at nagiging zombie ang sinumang nakakainom.

"Kailangan mag-comedy at napilit ko si Bing na umacting na zombie. Tawang-tawa kami lahat, kasi first time namin siyang nakitang uma-acting nang ganun.”

He enjoyed working with both of them.

“First time naming nagkasama nina Mane and Bing and last time na rin siguro, kasi magkasama silang dalawa sa tent at puro ako pinag-uusapan nila. Nilalait nila ako, kaya kawawa naman ako. No, but really, we’re all good friends.”

He did a lot of action stunts in ‘Mang Jose’. Was it more difficult than in ‘Pedro Penduko’?

“Hindi naman ganun kahirap ang stunts, kaya lang mas matanda na ako ngayon. I was so young in Pedro Penduko, twenty years ago.

"But I can assure you that 90% of the stunts here, ako pa rin mismo ang gumawa. Action-comedy is really my forte and I love doing action scenes kaya kahit mahirap, I did it.”

Will the movie suit today’s young millennial audiences?.

“I think so. We have a very young team with us, so alam nila ang gusto ng young viewers ngayon. Our director, Rayn Brizuela is very young, a lot younger than me, also our scriptwriter and the cinematographer.

"Lahat sila, very young. And enjoy na enjoy ako doing this movie with my younger co-stars, Jerald Napoles and Mikoy Morales. They are two talented young actors na malayo ang mararating sa industry.”

How does he like his costume as Mang Jose?

“Ang ganda ng costume ko, it’s a scene stealer. Mahirap lang kasi mainit siya, mabigat, may helmet pa ako at naka- goggles akong shaded, so mas mahirap gumalaw. After each take, grabe talaga ang tulo ng pawis ko, but it’s worth it.”

If he’d be given a real super power, what would it be?

“Kung mabibigyan ako ng power, sana yung makalipad ako, para hindi na ako nale-late sa appointments ko, lalo sa shooting.”

:Mang Jose" will have a special screening on November 17 then  it will stream on Vivamax starting December 24,
