WE’RE NOT SURPRISED that a lot of politicians are now feeling so insecure and threatened because of the huge approval rating and popularity that 30-year old Pasig mayor Vico Sotto is getting from the public.

He has proven himself as such a dedicated, hands on leader in his city during these trying times of worldwide crisis that residents of other cities now want to transfer to Pasig.

Vico distributed relief goods without his name or his picture on the package, unlike some mayors who had to make sure that their names are on it before distributing such goods to their constituents.

He got some drones and sprayed antiseptic disinfectants in Pasig streets to clean the air as a safety precaution. He put up mobile kitchens to help feed his poor constituents and even gave them multi-vitamins.

He asked the national government to allow tricycle drivers to operate based on a risk assessment study where they will be allowed to transport health workers and patients who need to go to hospitals for treatment.

When government officials and trolls, including Duterte himself in a special presscon where he contradicted an earlier statement about LGUs, blasted Vico for this, the hashtag #Protect Vico trended and has since garnered thousands upon thousands of tweets supporting Vico and his pro-people initiatives in Pasig.

Even ABS-CBN news anchor Noli de Castro made the mistake of implying that Vico is defying Duterte’s orders and chided him for not knowing there’s such a thing as the MMDA libreng sakay.

People started questioning Noli's competence when he was vice president and they asked him what has he done for his country. Someone even quipped the only thing they remember he did then is to fuel the dengvaxia hysteria.

In turn, more people continue to laud Vico for his honest efforts to lead competently. Someone pointed out that not everything the government does is right.

Best example is letting in so many Chinese nationals to get into our country, some of whom could have been virus carriers. In contrast, what Vico is trying to do is just save his people. Well, sorry na lang sa mga tuta ng gobierno who are dreaming to someday get the kind of support that Vico is getting now. Mamatay na lang kayo sa inggit!

We are sure Coney Reyes is so proud and fulfilled for being able to raise him so well. She posted a message thanking all of Vico's supporters.
