MYLENE DIZON ON BEING A COUGAR WHO FALLS FOR A YOUNGER MAN IN 'BELLE DOULEUR'

MYLENE DIZON is flattered to the bones when producer-director Joji V. Alonso told her she’s her only choice to play the lead role of Liz in “Belle Douleur”.

“We were in a party when she offered the role to me,” says Mylene. “Sabi niya, maganda ito, gawin mo. Hindi siya umalis sa tabi ko at hindi ako makaikot doon sa party. Ayaw niya akong tantanan. Nahirapan siyang i-convince ako kasi may daring love scenes daw. Siempre, iniisip ko yung sasabihin ng two sons ko, ng partner ko (Jason Webb). I have to take that into consideration. Pero nag-yes ako, sige gagawin ko yan, kasi gusto ko nang makaikot sa party. Ha ha ha!

"But seriously, I really like the theme of the movie. If it’s okay with men to fall for younger women, bakit hindi puede sa aming mga babae? I watched the film clip of the French woman who inspired the story and I really loved it.”

Atty. Joji admits Mylene is her only choice. “Kino-conceptualize pa lang ang project, siya na ang nasa isip ko, kasi I see Liz in her. Napakagaling niyang artista and I know na makuha ko lang siya, hindi na ako mahihirapan sa pagdidirek at 50 percent na ang maitutulong niya sa ikagaganda ng movie.”

Has Mylene ever been involved with a younger man in real life? “Yes, kay Paolo (Paraiso), yung tatay ng mga anak ko. Five years younger siya sa akin. O di ba, noon pa man cougar na ako!”

Paolo is also in the cast of “Belle Douleur”. How were they? “Ayun, muntik na kaming magkabalikan. Nagpigil lang ako! Ha ha ha!” she laughs. “Matagal na kaming hindi nagkita so medyo weird noong una, pero okay naman. I’m so happy now with Jason na one year
older sa’kin. My sons get along well with him and I get along well with his own kids.

But she has no plans of getting married. “Wala sa bokabularyo ko ang kasal. I’m surrounded by so many people whose marriages have failed and I saw the pain my friends went through. I’m in a very good place right now, so why rock the boat? At least kung boyfriend lang, madaling takasan. I know I’ll be criticized for this view, but bakit ba? This is my life. E, kayo, di magpakasal kayo!”

She’s so busy lately. She’s also taping regulary for the GMA-7 hit soap, “Sahaya”, as Manisan, Bianca Umali’s mom, and she’s in iWant’s “Babae sa Septic Tank 3” and “Don’t Call Me Tita”. “Yes, very tiring. But after ‘Sahaya’, I will rest muna kasi my sons are growing up. Teenager na yung eldest, e. I want to focus on them muna at sagutin ang marami nilang mga tanong.”

She has a neophyte leading man in “Belle Douleur”, Kit Thompson. How would she rate Kit with whom she did sizzling love scenes? “I will give him a 9.” Someone asked why just 9? “E kasi ang 10, yung jowa ko. Baka ma-outside the kulambo ako, so 9 lang si Kit. But in fairness to him, he’s very professional na katrabaho. He didn’t take advantage of me. Sana nga, e, kaso hindi,” she jokes, then quickly adds. “He’s very gentle and I didn’t feel violated.”

How about Atty Joji Alonso, how is she as a neophyte director? “Her style is so different. Quiet lang siya. Nasa booth lang siya watching the monitor. Magtataka ka kung minsan, tama bang ginawa ko? Hindi siya yung tipong kapitana na naninigaw, very controlling. Siya, chill lang. She lets you do what you want then just tells you later if she feels there’s a better way of doing a scene.”

Mylene won as Cinemalaya best actress for the film “100” in 2008. We’re sure she’ll be nominated again this year and we won’t be surprised if she bag it for her role as Liz in “Belle Douleur”.
