Ronald Arguelles Of Cinema One Originals Explains Why The Title Of The Entry 'Fisting' Had To Be Changed

THE TITLE of one of the official entries in Cinema One Originals Filmfest had to be change. This is “Fisting” by Director Whammy Alcazaren, starring Ricky Davao, Meryll Soriano and Jasmine Curtis Smith. The word connotes a kinky kind of sex act involving a clenched hand that requires great amounts of lubrication, so some folks seem to be offended and complained about it.

This is the official statement issued by Cinema One Festival Director Ronald Arguelles about the issue:

“As much as possible, we want to protect and allow the expression of our artists. The freedom to open discourse is a standard of a healthy community.

However, there comes a point when we need to be responsive and responsible to the whole community, so we are taking steps to address the issue. Sensitive steps are taken to navigate the situation carefully.

The filmmakers agreed to change the title and online collaterals asap. We encourage fearless projects, but not at the expense of our corporate, social and moral responsibility.

Cinema One Originals, under ABS-CBN FIlms, is in the service of the Filipino people. First and foremost. The film’s title now is “Never Tear Us Apart”.
