Ai Ai De Las Alas Wins Second International Best Actress Award For Her Role As An Aging Prostitute In 'Area' At The Asean International Filmfest In Malaysia

AFTER WINNING an acting award at the 7th Queens World Filmfest in New York for her performance as an aging prostitute searching for her long lost son in “Area”, Ai Ai de las Alas once again wins as best actress for the same film at the recent Asean International Filmfest Awards (AIFFA2017) held last weekend in Malaysia.

“The Lord is so good to me at napakasuwerte ko this year,” she says. “This is my second international acting award. I would have wanted sana to attend the awards night in Malaysia, kaya lang, hindi ako makaalis kasi I’m busy promoting my new movie for Regal, ‘Our Mighty Yaya’, that is opening in theaters this Wednesday na, May 10, as a Mother’s Day presentation. Kung sa ‘Area’, nag-heavy drama ako, dito naman sa ‘Our Mighty Yaya’, balik ako sa comedy. Yaya ako rito nina Sofia Andres and child stars Lucas Magallano and Allison McBride. Mga anak sila ng biyudong si Zoren Legaspi at si Megan Young ang stepmom nila. Very important sa’kin ang Mother’s Day dahil dito natin pinahahalagahan ang ating mga ina. Ako, bale I have three mothers. Una, yung biological mother ko who gave birth to me na sobrang matiisin, then my adoptive mother na siyang nagpalaki sa akin and taught me kung paano maging matapang sa buhay, at ang third mother ko ay si Mother Lily, who produced ‘Our Mighty Yaya’ bilang tribute namin to Mothers at sa nannies na nag-aalaga sa ating mga anak.”

The movie is written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes, who helmed Ai Ai’s last movie, “My Bebe Love”, one of the topgrossers in the 2015 Metro Filmfest. “It’s always a joy to direct Ai Ai kasi she’s really a good friend kaya matindi na ang rapport namin sa isa’t isa. At bagay na bagay ito sa kanya kasi she’s a real great mother to her own three kids.”

Although Ai Ai has announced that she’s officially engaged to non-showbiz BF Gerald Sibayan, she does not go to bed with him and will remain celibate until their wedding day.

“Naiintindihan naman ni Gerald yun and willing siyang maghintay,” she says. “Hindi issue sa amin yun kasi he knows Papal Awardee na ako, so dapat, igalang naman namin yun pati ang sacramento ng matrimonia, kaya we both have to wait. Wala naman nang hadlang sa amin kasi all my friends and family, approve of our relationship, pati ang tatlo kong anak na sina Sancho, Niccolo and Sofia.”
