Four Gay-Themed Movies Coming Soon: 'Bakit Lahat Ng Gwapo, May Boyfriend', 'Die Beautiful', 'Working Beks', & 'That Thing Called Tanga Na'

FOUR GAY-THEMED movies are currently being shot. (Ayaw ni Omar Mateen ng ganyan. If you don’t know who Omar is, i-google nyo.) Two of them are from award-winning writer-director Jun Lana, who did the international award-winner “Bwakaw” with Eddie Garcia as a gay old man. First is “Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo, May Boyfriend?”, which stars Anne Curtis, Dennis Trillo and Paolo Ballesteros. This is produced under the Viva banner.

The second is “Die Beautiful”, again starring suspended “Eat Bulaga” host Paolo Ballesteros as a gay man whose dying wish is for him to be made up like Lady Gaga when he dies. But his own family opposes it and dresses him up conventionally like a man, so his friends steal his dead body to honor and grant him his last request to be buried the way he wants to. This project has gotten a grant from the Hongkong Asian Film Financing Forum for financial assistance, co-produced with APT Entertainment. Also in the cast are Joross Gamboa, Marco Alcaraz and Luis Alandy.

The third movie is “Working Beks”, obviously inspired by Ishmael Bernal’s classic comedy, “Working Girls”, a big hit so it even had a Part 2 and, later, a remake of sorts done by Jose Javier Reyes. This time, the writer-director is Creese Martinez, with Viva Films producing. The casting is a combination of both real gays and straight actors like John “Sweet” Lapuz, Dominic Ochoa, Prince
Stefan, Joey Paras and Edgar Allan Guzman. It’s up to you choose from among them which ones are really gays and which ones are not.

The fourth one is “That Thing Called Tanga Na”, from Regal Entertainment and directed by Joel Lamangan who has previously helmed other gay films, both comedies and serious drama, like “Manay Po”, “Pusong Mamon”, “So Happy Together” and “Lihis”. This one is the story of several gay friends, starring Eric Quizon, Martin Escudero, Kean Cipriano and Billy Crawford (they’re mostly straight actors) with Angeline Quinto as the lone female star.

We just hope these coming movies will be heartily supported by more viewers and not suffer the same sad fate at the box office that happened to other recent gay-themed films, such as “Bekikang: Nanay Kong Beki” which also starred Joey Paras and “Pare, Mahal Mo Raw Ako”. As we all know, ang mga pelikulang kabaklaan that made a killing at the box office are only those that starred Vice Ganda, like “Boy Girl Bakla Tomboy” and “Sisterakas”.
