Two Allen Dizon Films, 'Magkakabaung' & 'Sekyu' To Compete In Various Film Festivals Abroad

TWO LOCAL INDIE FILMS have been accepted as entries in the coming 21st Kolkuta International Film Festival that will be held at Calcutta, India from November 14 to 21. These are “Magkakabaung (Coffin Maker)” and “Sekyu” (Security Guard), both of which stars Allen Dizon in the title role.

“Magkakabaung” is written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana and is an official selection in the NETPAC section. It is about a coffin maker in Pampanga who feels so guilty about the accidental death of his daughter from adverse side effects to a medicine for fever he gave her. It has given Allen 3 international best actor awards (including one from Hanoi Filmfest that has a cash prize of $3,000) and 6 local best actor awards. “Magkakabaung” is also an Official Selection at the 2015 ExGround International Filmfest in Wiesbaden, Germany that will be held from November 13 to 22; and also at the Hawaii International Filmfest in Honolulu that is currently going on. This is impressive as it’s being shown in Asia, in Europe and in the U.S.A.

“Sekyu” is written by Ricardo Lee and directed by Joel Lamangan. An official selection in the World Cinema Section, it is about a poor but honest security guard who accidentally kills his wife and later gets involved in a robbery that sends him to jail. He co-stars with Sunshine Dizon as his wife, along with Rez Cortez, Melai Cantiveros and Jim Pebanco. Our best wishes to Allen, “Magkakabaung” and “Sekyu”. May they bring more honors to our country.
