Robin Nievera, Son Of Martin And Pops, Talks About How It Is To Have Parents Like The Concert King And Queen

ROBIN NIEVERA is aware that having Concert King and Queen Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez is a tough act to follow. “My goal in life was never to be a concert prince,” he says at the presscon of his concert, “The Next Attraction”. “But being their son, I always have the best view when they have concerts as I get to seat in front. But I myself, I never dreamt of having sellout concerts at Araneta. I have a deeper goal: I just want to make my own music.”

Robin is 28, a singer-songwriter whose songs will remind you of the likes of John Mayer. His dad jokingly calls him the Prince of Pops, referring to his mom. He says he didn’t want to be a singer as a child. “But at 12, I learned to play the guitar in our school. I also became friends with musicians in our church and they taught me how to play better. At the age of 14, I really fell in love with music. In ‘The Next Attraction’, we’ll come up with a very different concert. We want to do things never done before in past concerts to make it really unique.”

He’ll be performing with the children of other top artists in “The Next Attraction” which will be held at Music Museum on July 4, Saturday, 8 PM. The other performers are Karylle (daughter of Zsa Zsa Padilla), Paulo Valenciano (son of Gary V) and Isabella (daughter of Kuh Ledesma). The stage director is Paulo V, while musical director is Robin himself.

The producer is Robin’s own mom, Pops Fernandez. Is she a stage mother? “No, I’m a stage producer,” says Pops. “And a proud mother.” Did she asks the help of ex-hubby Martin, Gary V, Kuh and Zsa Zsa to assist her in producing “The Next Attraction”? “No, pero sana, bumili sila ng tickets para sa concert kasi this is for the benefit of their own children. Yun na lang ang tulong na mahihingi ko sa kanila. And I hope they will watch, for moral support naman sa mga anak naming tiyak kong matutuwa kapag nakitang nanonood ang own parents nila.”

Robin, Karylle, Paulo and Isabella will show that they really inherited their parents’ genes as the new generation of artists and performers who will affirm that the future of Original Pilipino Music is truly in good hands.
