Coney Reyes Reveals How She Handles Conflicts, Like When A Former Movie Queen Assailed Her In Public

CONEY REYES plays a controversial role in “Nathaniel” that is as meaty as her role in the hit “100 Days to Heaven”, that of a wealthy businesswoman and motivational speaker who doesn’t believe in God but only in money and power. As the very controlling and materialistic mother of Gerald Anderson in the story, she meddles in her son’s love life and orders him to separate from his wife, Shaina Magdayao, because Shaina is so religious and she favors Isabelle Daza more for Gerald.

We know she’s a deeply religious woman, how come she accepted the role even if it’s the opposite of what she is in real life? “Yes, the role is very negative,” she says. “But when they explained it to me, may redeeming values siya, may kapupuntahang very positive ang buong story at may aral na mapupulot ang viewers. My role as a very powerful woman simply known as ALV is ibang klaseng kontrabida for whom money and wealth are the most important things. I teach something that is totally different from my real life convictions, kaya naman after the take of each speech I give in front of the people, I tell them na huwag nyong susundin ang mga tinuturo ko, ha. Hindi basta pera ang mahalaga sa buhay ng tao. Mas mahalaga pa rin ang faith at pamilya.”

How does she handle kinks in her life, like what happened when she became the object of the ire of Amalia Fuentes recently? “You know, I’ve been hurt several times in my life and I believe each conflict in every situation only brings me closer to God. It’s God who fights my battles for me and all I do is be quiet and learn how to forgive by His grace and power. I lift it all up to God and I just ask Him for His guidance, His advice and I just to choose to forgive and I get the blessing of peace and joy.”

Coney continues to be a source of inspiration to her co-stars, as Isabelle herself attests to. She even gave the writers who attended the “Nathaniel” grand presscon a copy of Harold J. Sala’s “Just for Today, Guidelines for Living”, which is really worth reading. Don’t miss Coney’s splendid portrayal as ALV in “Nathaniel” that starts airing on Monday, April 20, to replace “Dream Dad”.
