“A lot of people had their own speculations, they had their own stories in their minds,” he says. “A lot of people think Sarah left the country because we're having a baby and she's pregnant. I just want to set the record straight and tell everyone that I'm a proud father to baby Zion. The main reason why I didn't want to announce then that I'm having a baby with Sarah is that we didn't want to make Sarah's pregnancy a tabloid circus. We want to share baby Zion with everyone in our own terms."
Richard met Sarah when they were first paired in the soap “Makapiling Kang Muli” in 2012. They became inseparable and were paired anew in the movie “Seduction”. Richard says he got scared when they first learned about Sarah’s pregnancy when they were in Paris. “How am I gonna tell my parents? How is Sarah gonna tell her mom and her dad?”
When someone made a comment about it in her Instagram account, Sarah tells the reason why she kept her pregnancy a secret: “We never denied him. We just wanted to keep our privacy.” She then posted a picture of the baby’s hand saying: “Extremely happy to announce the new member of our family, baby Zion.”
The baby is now with Sarah’s parents in Switzerland. Now that they’ve admitted his existence, they’re making plans to bring them home to Manila. Next week, they will show photos of the baby in the second episode of “It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez”.
It’s said the truth will set you free, but the question now is how will their revelation affect their careers? Sarah was on the threshold of stardom after GMA successfully launched her in her solo soap, “Kokak”. She made a comeback via TV5’s TV movie “More Than Words”. Will she able to recover lost ground? Richard has not been seen on TV for a year now. We can’t say that their family’s reality show is a solo show for him. But he has a new movie, “Overtime”, coming up. How it will fare at the box office will be a big factor in determining what future lies ahead of him in showbusiness.
