Make Way For New Singer Summer, Balikbayan from the U.S.A.

UNIVERSAL RECORDS introduces new singer Summer, a balikbayan from Boston, USA. Summer has a Pinay mom, Barbara Lopez from Bulacan, and a German-American dad, Steven Benke, who first met in Hawaii 35 years ago. Summer is the youngest of three kids. Her two elder brothers now both have careers of their own. The eldest is finance director in Colorado while the second is an aerospace expert. Their dad is with the U.S. Navy who’s been assigned to various place. “I’ve lived in nine different states because of my dad’s work,” says Summer.

“I’ve been singing since I was two years old. My first songs were the songs of Barney, the purple dinosaur.”

Born on July 19, 1993, she was taking up masscomm when she took a vacation in Manila when she was 16.

“All my life, I felt like I was looking for something else,” she says. “The trip to Manila made me realize that my heart really beats as a Filipino and now I want to share my music with the Philippines.”

Hitmaker Vehnee Saturno produced her debut album, “Summer, Secret Love”, and wrote five songs in the album for her: “Huwag Mong Sabihin Lang” (the carrier single), “Kung Para Sa’Yo”, “Iniibig Kang Lihim” (collaboration with Aaron Paul del Rosario), “Only Time Can Say” (with Arrabelle Saturno) and “Without Your Love “(with Doris Saturno). Summer herself wrote a song in the album, “Your Love”, which is dedicated to the Lord.

Summer admits she was overweight when she first came to Manila several months ago. “That’s because I really love to eat,” she says. “I have since lost 60 lbs. but I still need to lose more weight.”

Born in the U.S.A., she now considers herself more of a Pinay. She wants to enroll at UST to take up music and also in a Tagalog class as she does not speak Tagalog fluently.
