What Are The Chances Of Kathniel Love Team Vs. Vice Ganda & Kris Aquino?

IN LAST YEAR’s Metro filmfest, the teen love team of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo just supported Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino in “Sisterakas”, which emerged as topgrosser. Now, they go solo in “Pagpag, Siyam ng Buhay”, up against Vice Ganda’s “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” and Kris’ “Little Bossings”. We ask “Pagpag” director Frasco Mortiz what do they think are their chances against their giant rivals?

“Kathryn and Daniel’s love team is the hottest at the moment and the huge ratings of their soap is proof of this,” he says. “They really have a big following and millions of fans, so palagay ko naman hindi magpapahuli ang ‘Pagpag’ sa takilya. Tapos, kasama rin sa cast sina Paulo Avelino at Shaina Magdayao. Also, kami lang ang horror film this year. And one thing I assure moviegoers who love to get a good scare, ‘Pagpag’ is really very scary and they’re sure to enjoy it. Kahit nasa nakauwi na sila sa bahay, matatakot pa rin sila.”

Frasco is the son of former matinee idol Edgar Mortiz and Milette Santos. He finished filmmaking in UP and now directs “Banana Split Extra Scoop,” “LUV U” and “Goin’ Bulilit.” He has directed “Cinco”, “The Reunion” and “24/7 in Love” on the big screen. “Pagpag, Siyam Na Buhay,” is his first entry in the annual Metro Filmfest, co-produced by Star Cinema, Skylight Films and Regal Entertainment.

Why is the title “Pagpag”? “Pamahiin kasing para ‘di ka malasin o maka-experience ng something nakakatakot after going to a wake, it’s best to pass by another place to make pagpag before going home. I grew up with this belief kasi ang dad ko mismo, he believes in it. We make it a point that after a wake, mapa-relative o kakilala lang, dumaraan muna kami somewhere. Kapag din lang kaugalian Pilipino, sundin na natin para tayo hindi magsisisi. In ‘Pagpag,’ sina Daniel, Kath and friends, nagpunta sa burol, marami silang sinuway na paniniwala and later on, may masaming nangyari sa kanila.”

Also in “Pagpag” are Matet de Leon, Dominic Roque, Miles Ocampo, Michelle Vito, Janus del Prado, Marvin Yap, CJ Novato and Clarence Delgado.
