Sharon Cuneta & Richard Gomez Talk About Their Good Old Days In 'Mega & Songwriter'

SCHEDULED TO be shown last Sunday on “The Mega and the Songwriter” is their tribute to the songs of Gloria Stefan and Patti Austin, but TV5 management obviously changed their mind at the last minute and showed instead the homage to The Beatles with Richard Gomez as the special guest, along with several top bands. We just hope they were able to promote it better because it’s really a very entertaining episode that deserves to be seen by more viewers. It’s so amusing to watch ex-sweethearts Sharon Cuneta and Goma in the show’s opening and closing sequences, engaging in light banter and conversing like old friends. Their last song “With a Little Help from My Friends” is indeed very fitting for them. It’s apparent that they’ve maintained their friendship through the years and Ogie even somewhat felt OP (out of place) and kept on asking “Kailangan pa ba ako dito?”

It’s a very relaxing show as a Sunday nightcap simply because Sharon and Ogie both excel in hosting and singing. They have good chemistry in handling the show. We also loved Sharon’s rendition of the now classic “In My Life”. Ogie also composed a new song in his request portion for someone who’ll get married soon, Ralph Guzman, entitled “Ikaw ang Buhay Ko”.

Ogie did a rousing duet with co-Universal Records artist Banda ni Kleggy in “Can’t Buy Me Love”. He also did “Strawberry Fields” with Kean Cipriano and Callalily. Sharon, in turn, did a duet of “Hey Jude” with Mark Escueta and RiverMaya. Mark revealed that he and wife of two years Jolina Magdangal are expecting their first baby in February.

We fervently wish that the show would be loaded with more TV commercials. Ad agencies and established companies should support this kind of clean and wholesome show that is currently one of its kind on local TV. We heard that because of the great feedback on Goma’s appearance with Sharon, TV5 is now preparing a big project for them. Good. We’ll look forward to that and we’ll look forward to more music-filled Sunday nights on “The Mega and the Songwriter”.

Tonight, they’ll show the Gloria Estefan-Patti Austin tribute episode.
