Sunshine Cruz Tops Kris Aquino & Claudine Barretto In Suing Her Own Ex-Husband For Rape

IN THE SAGA of estranged married couples whose love turned into war, Sunshine Cruz has surpassed Kris Aquino and Claudine Barretto in suing their respective ex-husbands, James Yap and Raymart Santiago. Sunshine has not only filed for TPO (temporary protection order) but also a formal complaint against Cesar Montano on a case of Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act at the Quezon Hall of Justice last Tuesday.

Her lawyer, Atty. Boni Alentajan, said Sunshine experienced all sorts of injustice in the hands of Cesar: “psychological, emotional, financial”, saying in effect that he’s a “very domineering philandering husband” who “demanded full submission and obedience” from his wife. When Sunshine would inquire why he’d sometimes not come home, Cesar allegedly “would violently react, and subjected Sunshine to harsh verbal abuses.”

They listed down Cesar’s alleged violent acts, like his raping Sunshine last May 12, Mother’s Day, when Cesar barged in into Sunshine’s home who was then alone “and then and there respondent (Cesar) violently attacked her, employed physical violence, and raped her. Respondent continued and still continues to harass complainant (Sunshine) by threatening her with physical harm, obscene accusations, and grave defamations."

Sunshine decided to formally file a complaint because Cesar doesn’t want to return to her their three daughters aged 11, 8 and 7. “I allow him to borrow our kids when I’m working, but now, ayaw na niyang isauli,” she said. “Puro tomorrow, tomorrow. Hanggang sa tumagal nang tumagal and I realized na he’s not going to return them na. My kids text me and tell me to pick them up because they miss me and they want to come home. Pinasundo ko sa driver ko but hindi sila pinalabas ng bahay. Ang ipinaglalaban ko rito, ang mga anak ko as I miss them so much.”

She says there’s no chance of reconciliation with Cesar anymore. “Ayoko na. I’ve given him 13 years to change, that’s enough. If you’re not happy anymore and you’re miserable, bakit mo pa itutuloy?”

Like what we always say, in cases of such bitter separations between married couples, it’s actually their children who suffer even more. So let’s pray for their children.

Efforts to talk to Cesar and get his side were turned down. Cesar is now taping “Sa Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas” with Lovi Poe. We doubt if he’d attend its presscon soon when he’d surely be grilled by the press about this latest development in his estrangement from his wife.
