JM De Guzman's Loss Is Rocco Nacino's Gain In Portraying 'San Pedro Calungsod'

JM DE GUZMAN is out of the Metro filmfest entry, “San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir”, but the project is pushing through. He’ll be replaced by Rocco Nacino, who just finished two indie films: “Burgos” with Lorna Tolentino and “Ibong Adarna” for Direk Jun Urbano. Rocco doesn’t mind being second choice. Last year, when San Pedro Calungsod was canonized, Rocco already played him in a docu-drama produced by GMA-7 in October. Now, he’ll reprise the role but for the big screen this time.

Rocco’s career is really going places, what with him also the leading man of Lovi Poe in the new GMA-7 primetime soap, “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas”, directed by Laurice Guillen. He’s also getting positive reviews for his comic performance as Marian Rivera’s fierce office rival in the current hit “My Lady Boss”.

As for JM, he may be taking a vacation but his fan can look forward to the showing of the comedy entry he finished for the coming CineFilipino filmfest in September, “Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin”, with Tuesday Vargas and Julia Clarete, directed by Randolph Longjas. His dad Ronniel, an editor in Manila Bulletin, said he will be on leave for six months for health reasons to detox and do some soul searching before he continues with his showbiz carer. His contract with ABS expired last June. Let’s see if they’d be willing to accept him back when he’s ready to work again.
