Mariz finished broadcast communications at UP Diliman in 2001. “Nag-intern ako sa GMA then they got me na as researcher for the 2001 elections. Tapos naging reporter ako. My first assignment was the counting of ballots sa San Juan. First live report ko naman on cam was about the typhoon from Pag-asa in 2001. Then nalagay ako sa ‘Reporter’s Notebook’ with Jiggy Manicad and Maki Pulido. I reported on how some minors are forced to sell themselves sa mga akyat barko in Masbate to earn a living. I also did Flash Reports. In 2005, I hosted ‘May Trabaho Ka’ on Channel 11. I also hosted ‘Born to Be Wild’ for 4 months. Tamang-tamang bumalik si Doc Ferds, heto, I was assigned to do ‘Kape at Balita’.”
Mariz is all set to tie the knot on December 8 with news anchor Raffy Tima. What qualities of Raffy endear him to her? “Sobrang bait niya. He’s sensitive to my needs. I’m so busy working Monday to Sunday and he understands that, including my being a Catholic dahil Protestant siya. He even joins me in my Marian devotion. Masarap din siyang kausap as he’s very sensible and I enjoy his sense of humor.”
