Roadway Star Mig Ayesa Happy To Work With Local Co-Stars In 'Rock Of Ages'

BROADWAY STAR Mig Ayesa is glad to be back in Manila to reprise the role of Stacee Jaxx that he did in New York in “Rock of Ages”. The role is now played by Tom Cruise on the big screen. Miguel Alfonso Legarda Ayesa was born in Manila on Jan. 12, 1970, then his family moved to Sydney, Australia where he finished high school at St. Patrick’s in Strathfield. He was taking up masscom in Macquarie University when he bagged the role of Richie Valens in “The Buddy Holly Story”. He left college and joined the play’s tour all over Australia. He then moved to London to do “We Will Rock You”, “Rent” and “Grease”. On Broadway, he did “Burn the Floor” first then “Rock of Ages” at the Helen Hayes Theatre. He’s married to actress Simone de la Rue.

“Rock of Ages” opens in RCBC Makati on June 14, the same day that Tom Cruise’s film opens in theatres. How does he feel about it? “I think it’ll help create more awareness for both the stage and film versions,” he says. “I got to meet Tom Cruise when I was doing the play in L.A. and he visited us. We talked about our character, Stacee, and we both agree that he lives in his own world. I’d really like to see the film, where they made some changes.”

How’s it working with Filipino actors like Vina Morales, Jett Pangan, Nyoy Volante, Jinky Llamanzares, etc? “They’re all very talented, very professional, very serious with their craft. We’re all working like a family and I’m enjoying it. I also look forward to performing in front of a Filipino audience. I’m very excited about it as we all know Filipinos are very musically talented.”

“Rock of Ages” will run from June 15 to July 18 at the RCBC Makati Carlos Romulo Theatre. For tickets, call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078, 840-1187 or Ticketworld at 891-9999.
