Edu Manzano Considers It An Achievement To Work With Joey De Leon In 'Game N Go'

EDU MANZANO has a special place in Joey de Leon’s heart. “Kasi pareho sila ng initials ng misis ko,” says Joey, whose wife is Eileen Macapagal.

And how does Edu feel about working with Joey in TV5’s Sunday noontime show, “Game N Go”, that starts airing on June 17? “I got excited when TV5 exec Perci Intalan asked me, ‘Would you like to work with Joey?’ I consider it an achievement in my career to be able to work with him. Sa meetings namin for the show, you can see iba yung lalim niya. Ang iba, tingin sa kanya, komedyante, but you’ll admire him when you work with him kasi iba siyang mag-isip. I think we can learn from each other. Magiging maganda ang batuhan namin na hindi scripted.”

Why did he leave GMA-7 after hosting “Family Feud”? “May binibigay naman silang projects sa’kin but I just want to focus on hosting. Ayoko muna ng acting, which is why I don’t do movies now or teleseryes. Di ko kaya yung magdamagang trabaho. Let’s just say na hindi tugma yung shows or concepts ko, hindi pasok sa kanilang strategies. Dito sa TV5, gusto ko yung ideas nilang out of the box for the viewers to see something different naman.”

Will he run in the 2013 elections? “No, ayoko na. Nakakatulong naman ako sa kapwa in other ways, like the cancer ward sa Philippine Children’s Medical Center na sinusuportahan ko. Nag-serve na rin naman ako sa government as OMB Chair noong 2004. Even my son, Luis, when I heard he plans to go into politics, sabi ko, no, kasi okay naman ang showbiz career niya and he’s earning well. He could serve the public in other ways na lang. Hindi maganda yung pagsabayin mo ang showbiz at politics.”

When not working, he’d rather spend more time with his kids. “57 na ko this year. My youngest, Enzo, is now 17, 6’1”, and plays with La Salle for NCAA. Yung ate niya, si Adi, is now 19 and is in Ateneo. May mga kumukuha sa kanila para mag-show, but I told him gayahin nila ang Kuya Luis nila. Nagtapos muna bago nag-showbiz.”
