Toni Gonzaga becomes a Japayuki

TONI GONZAGA was proclaimed by SM Cinemas as last year’s Box Office Queen for her huge hit with John Lloyd Cruz, “Amnesia Girl”. She now just completed her new film, “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi”, which has the making of another hit. “It’s about two couples,” she says. “Kami ni Zanjoe Marudo yung ‘Wedding Tayo’. Kami yung excited to get married. We’re both teachers, but I’m also a folk singer at nakuha kong kumanta sa Japan. Naging Japayuki ako at pagbalik ko rito, ibang-iba na ang personality ko, causing some complications. Sina Eugene Domingo and Wendell Ramos yung ‘Wedding Hindi’. They’re no longer satisfied with their relationship and don’t believe in weddings anymore.”

So when is her own wedding with longtime BF Direk Paul Soriano? “Ay matagal pa. Wedding hindi muna kami as of now.”

She’s directed in the movie for the first time by Jose Javier Reyes. How’s it working with him when she’s so used to Cathy Molina? “Magkaiba naman sila. Babae si Cathy at lalake si Direk Joey. I’ve work with him as my co-host in ‘ETK’ before at bilib ako sa brilliant opinions niya that he shares in the show. I told him then, sana, magkatrabaho tayo in a movie someday. Heto, nagkatotoo na. Magaan siya katrabaho, so much fun to work with.”

Toni is busy each day of the week as she’s hosting “Happy Yippe Yehey” Monday to Saturday and “The Buzz” on Sundays. When the new season of PBB starts, she’ll also be hosting it every night. She’s now also busy preparing for her first solo concert at the Araneta Coliseum, to be staged on September 30, to be megged by Johnny Manahan who also directs her in “ASAP”. Her guests include John Lloyd Cruz, Piolo Pascual and her sister Alex.
