Allen Dizon recognized as a good actor

IT’S OBVIOUS that Allen Dizon’s desire to turn his back on his past as a sexy actor and be recognized as a serious one is paying off. After he won acting awards for films like “Twilight Dancers”, “Paupahan” and “Dukot”, ABS got him now to play Albert Martinez’ best friend in “Nasaan Ka, Eliza?” “It’s a good role,” he says. “Akala mo, mabait ako and devoted friend but it turns out I’m having an affair with Vina Morales, Albert’s younger sister. Sana magtuloy-tuloy at mabigyan pa ko ng ibang magandang roles in future soaps.”

But he has not forgotten doing socially relevant films like “Dukot” which is about political abductions. He’s now nominated as best supporting actor in the Golden Screen Awards for his portrayal of a double agent working with both the military and the NPA in “Sigwa”. He also just finished shooting “Deadline” where he plays a Muslim journalist who gets the ire of a governor-warlord (Tirso Cruz III) who tries to murder him. He’s now shooting “Patikul” as an illiterate coffee farmer in Mindanao who learns how to take arms for his family.
