Ali Sotto hosts new GMA-7 Morning talk show Star Box

ALI SOTTO is back on GMA-7 with a new morning show, “Star Box”, with radio personality Papa Jack and XLR8 twin singers MJ and MM Magno. She was last seen on ABC-5 hosting her own talk show, but she resigned when her American diplomat husband Omar was assigned in Madrid. “We were in Mexico from 2000 to 2003 then in Madrid from 2008 to late last year. When I returned home, I was very open kasi di ko alam kung may babalikan pa ko. I got an offer both from ABS and GMA. I prayed hard. Lord, kunsaan mo ko gusto ilagay where I can best serve You, yun po sana ang matuloy. E, itong sa GMA ang natuloy. I’m glad to be back to GMA kasi dati, singer-actress ako. Sila talaga ang nagbigay sa’kin ng break sa hosting.”

“Star Box” starts airing on Monday at 9:45 AM along with “Family Feud” hosted by Edu Manzano as pre-programs to “Eat Bulaga”. “Talk show ito but iba ang concept,” says Ali. “Kung sa ‘Showtime’ ng ABS at ‘Face to Face ng TV5, ang mga tao ang nagpupunta sa studio, in our case, kami ang pupunta where the people are to ask their opinion about various controversial topics. We’ll go to markets, MRT stations, malls, on the street and ask ordinary people to share their own feelings and beliefs. This is live so it’s risky. People might not talk or they might say words not allowed on TV, but I welcome the challenge, especially talking to people from all walks of life in their own language. Yung A&B, madali yun. It will be the CDE crowd that would be more challenging.”

Her co-hosts are all newcomers. “Yes, akong Mama A nila rito. Everyone suggested Papa Jack as he has a huge following on radio with his advice program. I listened to him and I said, okay ‘to, baliw, makakasundo ko ‘to. The twins naman are meant to attract the younger viewers.”

How’s her eldest son, Chino? “He turned 30 today (March 28). He now lives and works in Pasadena, California where we got him his own house. Wala pa ring asawa. Gusto ko na ngang magkaapo. Sabi ko nga, if Miko were alive today, doon, siguro, ang dami ko ng apo ngayon. But Omar’s daughter is currently staying with us with her own 4-year old blonde daughter so may bata kami ngayon sa bahay.”
