Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velazquez are the new Dolphy and Panchito

WE HAD A great time at the “I Valentine U” concert of Ogie Alcasid and Pops Fernandez, with the special participation of Regine Velasquez, at Crowne Plaza, produced by Annabelle Rama’s Royal Artist Management. Front acters Carla Humphries, Solenn Heussaff (we like her version of Madonna’s “Fever”) and newcomer Bea Tantoco all did well. Ogie and Pops started their show with “Tonight’s Gonna Be a Good Night” and it indeed was a good night for all those who watched their concert. We enjoyed Ogie’s medley of Barry Manilow and Tagalog love songs (with audience participation) and Pops medley of old songs like “Two for the Road” and “Moment to Moment”, plus her medley of Lady Gaga hits.

Regine is just supposed to be a guest but she did so many numbers. She did duets with both Ogie and Pops then went solo with her amazing newly arranged rendition of “Papa Don’t Preach”. Her comic interchange with both Ogie (especially their Dolphy and Panchito act of Ogie translating English songs into Tagalog) was hilarious. She also doesn’t mind making fun of herself and her battle with the bulge. She says she gained weight because she’s rich. The thin ones are poor, like Heart Evangelista. We don’t know if it’s intentional or she forgot that Heart is not in good terms with Annabelle. The I Candy girls (Carla Humphries, Bubbles Paraiso, Arci Munoz and Ehra and Michelle Madrigal) performed a high energy sexy dance number that heated up the concert stage. Annabelle didn’t scrimp on her budget as she used state-of-the-art lighting effects for the show and a new set that’s not just leftover from some other shows. With such pros as Ryan Cayabyab as musical director and Al Quinn as stage director, how can she fail in coming up with a real crowdpleaser? No wonder everyone was congratulating her for a job well done.

Annabelle’s hubby, kids, grandkids and talents all came in full force to support the show. JC De Vera and Danita Paner no longer hide their relationship as they were inseparable all night. Ruffa Gutierrez has not just one but two guys with her that night. One was the Latino hunk Eduardo Puertas who has been photographed with her before in Hongkong. The other one is a blonde guy named Robert Davis. Ruffa says not any of them is her boyfriend. “Suitors pa lang,” she adds.
