Marvin Agustin hosts The Search for the Kitchen Superstar

MARVIN AGUSTIN is elated that after doing “Beauty Queen” with Direk Joel Lamangan, they’retogether again, but this time in a movie, “Patikul”. “When I read the script, tinanggap ko agad not only because I welcome the chance of working with Direk Joel again na nakasama ko last year in ‘Sigwa’, but because ang ganda talaga ng material,” he says. “I play the role of a school principal in Patikul, Sulu who’s doing his best to give quality education to the poor children of coffee farmers. But the Abu Sayyaf kidnaps me and beheads me. Dahil dito, the coffee farmers arm themselves to fight the terrorist group.”

Marvin also tries hosting for the first time in “The Search for the Kitchen Superstar” that starts in April on GMA-7. “When it was offered, sabi ko ‘Why me?’ I’m not a kitchen superstar. They said bagay sa’kin due to my track record sa negosyo with my ten restaurants now.

Tinitingala raw ako at gustong tularan so I will inspire all the cooks who’ll join the contest and give them hope, kasi kung ano yung pagdaraanan nila sa show, napagdaanan ko na before. Kasi ako, di nakapag-college, pero nagsikap ako so we’ll show na yung katuparan ng dreams mo, nasa mga kamay mo mismo.”

Auditions were held in Manila last Saturday. Contestants must be 18-50 years old and has no formal training in the culinary arts. The complete requirements are in Marvin’s website: marvinagustin.com. Auditions in SM Pampanga will be on February 16, in SM Cebu and Iloilo on March 5, and SM Davao and Naga on March 12. From the thousands that will audition nationwide, 21 cooks will be chosen to come to Manila. Then they will be tested to cook right away and 15 will be chosen to go on. All of them will be housed together in one venue and elimination rounds will be held each week until they proclaim the winner who wins not only cash but Marvin’s guidance to put up his own resto business.
