Aljur Abrenica on Men's Health magazine

JUST BEFORE “Machete” started airing last Monday, Aljur Abrenica was presented by GMA Artist Center and Summit Publications as the new cover boy of Men’s Health Magazine where he tells us how he got his chiselled physique through the Machete workout supervised by his personal trainer, Billy James Renacia, a professional bodybuilder who also acts in bit roles. They became friends while doing “Dyesebel” and “Luna Mystica”. “Aljur has the motivation and determination to achieve his goal and the kind of body he wants,” says Renacia. “He was only 19 when we started and I really admire his personal discipline.”

Aljur is turning 21 next month and he has no doubt the best torso among actors in his age bracket. Men’s Health details the exercises he does for various parts of his body to be in top form. “As a boy, an uncle of mine would buy the foreign edition of Men’s Health and I told myself then, ‘Balang araw, malalagay rin ako sa cover niyan’. Heto ngayon, nagkatotoo na,” Aljur beams. You can also visit Men’s Health Online at www.menshealth.com.ph and on facebook.com/men’shealthphilippines.

As “Machete” is about to have its pilot telecast, is Aljur nervous as to how viewers will accept it? “Yes, may kaba, but I’m confident that they will like it all of us involved in the show, from the crew to my co-stars, did out best to make sure this will be much more entertaining than the first two film versions. Actually, ibang-iba na yung story namin at mas madadala ang viewers sa undying love story ni Machete for his lady love that starts in ancient times and gets resurrected in the present.”

He’s really so busy these days. He just came from Seoul, Korea to get his Asian Male Model award from Asian Model Festival. “They asked for the portfolios of GMA stars from Artist Center boss Ida Henares at sa dami ng pinadala, ako ang pinalad na mapili. It’s really an honor as 13 countries participated. From Taiwan, si Jerry Yan and napili and from Korea, it’s Cholo of ‘Stairway to Heaven’. I feel so proud to be in their company. It was a fast trip. I left Thursday night, we got there Friday morning and reported agad doon sa affair. We had about two hours of pasyal and let Friday night. Saturday, narito na uli ako sa Manila.”
