TV Patrol out to beat the competition

WE WERE invited to the formal welcome given by ABS-CBN to comebacking TV Patrol anchors Korina Sanchez and Noli de Castro last Monday night just before they went on the air. New chief Ging Reyes, replacing Maria Ressa, led the prayer. Fr. Tito Caluag also blessed Korina, Noli and Ted Failon. An early dinner was served before the anchors went inside the studio, which is quite impressive with its state of the art equipment in delivering the news. Korina, Noli and Ted form a seasoned powerhouse team of working broadcast journalists committed to serve Pinoys all over the world in delivering the news. Ted is dubbed Sandigan ng Bayan, Korina is Kakampi ng Bayan while Noli is Kabayan ng Pilipino.

Ging Reyes is optimistic that TV Patrol will be more competitive with their new team. Ging started working with ABS in 1986 as production assistant and worked herself up the ranks as floor director, producer and the head of the ABS news bureau in the U.S. for 8 years. “My time in America was the most difficult and challenging,” she says. “I had to deal with homesickness and loneliness. I had to make do with limited technical and human resources at ABS International. It’s a tough decision for me to comeback and lead the newsroom now but I welcome the challenge .”

How is she different from Ms. Ressa? “I’m more informal and more transparent. I’ll be a mentor to our reporters and managers and help create future leaders in the news department. Together, we’ll manage to come up with a more cohesive, creative and inspired news team.”
