THREE TALENTS of Annabelle Rama are in the cast of GMA-7’s new soap, “Beauty Queen”: TJ Trinidad, Bubbles Paraiso and Jay Aquitania. TJ plays the role of the playboy Marc Sandoval, son of a rich former beauty queen who becomes a beauty pageant impresario, Madame Yuri, played by Gloria Diaz. He eventually becomes the leading man of Iza Calzado. Bubbles plays Stefanie Luna, a rich socialite who connives with Katrina Halili in making Iza’s life miserable. Jay Aquitania plays the young Anya, who later becomes Bembol Roco, the gay uncle of Iza who mentors her to become a beauty queen.
TJ is happy to be reunited with Iza in “Beauty Queen”. “We’ve played husband and wife on the big screen, in ‘Desperadas 1 and 2’. We guested in ‘Pilyang Kerubin’ , but this is the first time we’re paired in a daily soap.”
His fans requested GMA to pair him with Regine Velasquez in her new soap since they had good chemistry in ‘Diva’. “I’d like to thank them but I guess GMA wants to shuffle their stars kasi nga we were just together in ‘Diva’, but I’m sure there’s still a possibility that Regine and I will still work together in the future.”
Bubbles is excited with “Beauty Queen” as it’s her first villain role. “Usually, mabait ang role ko, like in ‘Zorro’ and ‘Last Prince’. I took acting workshops on how to be an effective contravida. Pinaghandaan ko talaga.” A good friend of Angel Locsin after they got to know each other better while helping Ondoy victims, we asked her if Angel is now on with Chito Miranda of Parokya ni Edgar? “Hindi, barkada lang sila. We hang out sa Fuel Up Bar ni Angel sa Don Antonio in Commonwealth at friends lang talaga sila.”
For Jay, his role as the young Anya is his second time to play a gay as he played a similar role before in “All My Life”. “I appear in the pilot week ng mga bata pa lahat kami. Lovi Poe plays the mother of Beth Oropesa na sister ko sa story while Juan Rodrigo who rapes Lovi is played by James Blanco.”
All of them are busy preparing musical numbers for the 58th birthday of Annabelle on October 31. “Talagang pinagmi-meetingan namin yan araw-araw,” says Bubbles. “But it will be held on October 28 kasi ayaw ni Tita Annabelle sumabay sa Halloween. More than 20 na kaming alaga ni Tita and this will serve also as a relaunch for all of us. Bukod sa musical numbers, meron din kaming fashion kasama sina JC De Vera, Miriam Quiambao, Carla Humphries, and even my brother Paolo na alaga na rin ngayon ni Tita.”
