Ruffa Gutierrez and Cesar Flores are just friends

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

AFTER BEING linked to Daniel Craig lookalike Chris Parker, Ruffa Gutierrez is now linked with Smartmatic honcho Cesar Flores. “I have many friends and admirers, hindi lang sila,” she says. “Cesar is just a new friend and I’m enjoying his company. We’re still getting to know each other better as friends. Ganun lang. He’s here now. He went home to Venezuela. Nakakahiya dun sa tao. He’s amazed sa dami ng publicity niya because of me. He’s a private person pa naman.”

Her parents are said to approve of him, specially her dad Eddie Gutierrez since they both speak Spanish. “Naku, it’s too premature for them to approve of anything kasi three times pa lang kami nagkita. Believe it or not, mas enjoy ako ngayon na walang lovelife, hindi ako nai-stress. No one asks ‘Where are you?’ Trabaho na lang muna ako, lalo na with ‘Star Factor’ starting soon. I’m excited to host this search for new stars by TV 5 kasi iba naman ito sa what I do in ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ and ‘Paparazzi,’ na both maganda rin ang feedback. Sana maraming mag-apply sa auditions this Sunday sa Mall of Asia. I really want to help TV 5 discover new talents na mamahalin ng tao. Kaya lang, I also feel some guilt as I have little time for my daughters now. Kaya when I’m free I always spend my rest day with them. They help boost my energy para mas pagbutihin ko ang work ko.”

Aspiring stars who’ll apply at Star Factor today at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall should be 13 to 18 years old only.

SHARON CUNETA was bubbly and jolly in her “MegaDrama” presscon but she turned serious when asked about husband Kiko Pangilinan’s bid for the senate presidency that won’t be supported by Sen. Tito Sotto. “It hurts me very very much kasi he’s a second father to me, he’s my daddy and I even openly endorsed his candidacy sa senate in the last election and did a TV commercial with him,” she says. “I’m very close to the Sottos because of my Tita Helen (Gamboa). I love him, I understand his decision, pero masakit pa rin. That’s why I love Sen. Jinggoy Estrada (who’s supporting Kiko) very much. May paninindigan siya. Basta I’m behind my husband 150% and as far I’m concerned, he’s already a winner. They say he’s inexperienced. That’s true. Wala siyang experience sa pagnanakaw at panlililang. Kung iimbestigahan ang coffers ng nasa gobierno natin ngayon, lalabas na isa siya sa malilinis. Lahat ng meron kami, pinaghirapan namin. Lahat ng luho ko, hindi galing sa kanya. Mayaman na ako. Okay na yun.”

Voting will take place tomorrow morning before Pres. Noynoy delivers his SONA. Will she be at the SONA? “No, I’m so busy. I’m having a new lifestyle show sa Lifestyle Channel, ‘Sharon at Home’, which is also the title of magazine na hands on ako editing. Buo na nga sa isip ko yung Christmas issue namin.”

DOLPHY turns 82 on July 25 and TV5 is giving him a special birthday presentation in “Pidol’s Wonderland” tonight with Maricel Soriano, who played his daughter Shirley in “John en Marsha” for more than a decade, as his special guest. “It’s nice to work again with my dad,” says Maricel. “I’ve been working with him since I was little child at talagang siya na ang tinuring kong ama ko sa showbiz. I haven’t seen him for sometime kaya naman hindi matapos-tapos ang kuwentuhan naming sa set ng ‘Pidol’s Wonderland’.”

“Marami na kong naging anak at nakatrabaho sa showbiz but Maricel is one of those dearest to me,” says Dolphy. “It’s always a pleasure working with her.”
Dolphy plays Mang Pidol in his show, an antique collector and curio shop owner who tells stories and legends for the whole family. His son Eric Quizon directs the show and Eric is delighted to have Maria as their special guest in their dad’s special birthday episode to be shown tonight at 6:30 PM before ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ on TV5.

IT’S BEEN four years since her last film so Claudine Barretto is understandably excited with her comeback in the GMA-Viva Films super co-production mostly filmed in the U.S., “In Your Eyes” that opens on August 18. “My role is something I’ve never done before, so I really prepared for it,” she says. “I play a Pinay migrant in the U.S. who’s been living in California for several years so I took lessons with a language coach to get the right California accent para naman I’d be credible in my role. In the story, Ate ako ni Anne Curtis at boyfriend niya si Richard Gutierrez in Manila. For Richard to be able to live in the U.S., I agree to have an arranged marriage with him kasi U.S. citizen na ako, but in the process, we really fall in love with each other and this becomes the big source of conflict in the film which is full of dramatic confrontation scenes involving the three of us.”

How would she rate her younger co-stars? “They’re both good, I can’t complain. Gaganahan kang kaeksena sila as they really give their best. Marami silang gugulatin sa husay ng acting nila rito.”

Director Mac Alejandre says it’s to Claudine’s credit that she brings out the best in her “In Your Eyes” co-stars. “She’s very supportive kina Richard at Anne, inspiring them and giving them words of encouragement during their difficult emotional scenes. Everyone on the set really takes their hat off sa galing ni Claudine.”

JAYA CRIED at the thanksgiving party of “Diva”that ends with a bang this coming week. “This is my first acting job so it’s really important to me,” she says. “Regine Velasquez was the one who encouraged me to try acting and on the set, she became everyone’s Ate and Nanay as Diva is her brainchild. And she’s so giving us a person that she’d treat everyone to a movie at ngayon, as parting gifts she gave a present to everyone like Ipad, Iphone at sa’kin, Macbook. Overwhelmed nga kami sa generosity niya. Napakaganda ng bonding ng buong cast sa show kaya naman we became a real family. Ngayong patapos na ang show, I can’t help but be emotional kasi napamahal na sa’kin silang lahat. At first, I never thought I’d be close to Mark Anthonhy Fernandez and TJ Trinidad. Akala ko suplado ang mga mestisong ito, but it turned out mababait sila, lalo na si TJ na madaldal pala. Dahil din sa pagiging artista ko, lumawak ang fan base ko. When people see me in public, they call me Barang, my name in Diva. And I’m very thankful to GMA kasi di pa man tapos ito, may new acting assignment na ako, ‘Kaya ng Powers’ na sitcom naman. Sobra talaga dami ng blessings ko.”
