Martin and Pops in One Amore Time

LOOKING AT POPS Fernandez and Martin Nievera seated together at the presscon of their Valentine show, "One Amore Time", you won't think they're separated. They still look good together, so sweet and it's obvious that they still care for each other. What's one moment in their married life when they thought that they'd be happy together forever? "There was one time when we were in the car, I fetched her from work. I was driving, she's at the passenger seat and we were stuck in traffic at the south superhighway, there's nothing to do and then I begun to cry," says Martin. "She said what's wrong? I said, nothing, everything is right. I just realized this is the happiest time in my life. That was the time we became Christians and it was all about family and God, no tension, less of work. It was in 1994. Do you remember that?"

"Sorry, Mart, I must have been so traumatized na," says Pops. "I don't remember that part."

Up to now, they still greet each other on June 28. "That's our wedding day and we say 'Happy June 28'. Usually, it's me who greets her first but last June 28, Pops was the one who greeted me first."

Do they also greet each other on their independence day, when their marriage got annulled? "That's October 16," says Martin.

"No," says Pops. "We only remember the happy moments."

Last year, their "Missing You" Valentine concert was produced by Jomari Yllana. There was a post-concert controversy that led to the breakup of Jom and Pops. This time, no such thing will happen as they have a new producer, May Vinluan Dolonius of Mauve Management, who Martin jokingly claims as his new girlfriend. How will this be different from the last one?

"The concept for this one is soap opera, which is the hottest thing on TV today," says martin. "Our story siguro is the ultimate soap opera, di ba? We'll sing a lot of love songs together. About 85 to 90% of the show, we'll be together on stage. It'll be hotter, sexier, more daring and passionate for the two of us."
Directed by Rowell Santiago, "One Amore Time" will be at SMX Convention Center MOA on February 14. For tickets, call 425-7598, 0922-813-2119, 401-8002, 0918-885-9335.
