GMA-7'S REMAKE of "Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita?", that starts this afternoon replacing "Tinik sa Dibdib", is tailor-made for real life mom and daughter Jean and Jennica Garcia. "We bought the rights specifically for them," says GMA-7's VP for drama Lilibeth Rasonable who's celebrating her birthday on January 31. "Bagay na bagay sa kanila ang material."
Jean and Jennica have worked together in "Impostora" and the movie "Hide and Seek" but they think this is their most challenging show so far. "We promise GMA won't regret it," says Jean.
Jennica admits it's a big pressure to play a role originally interpreted by Lorna Tolentino. "She's a great actress at ang feeling ko, kailangan hindi ko lang mapantayan kundi mahigitan ang performance niya."
How is it working with her mom? "Pag nagtataray siya sa'kin, natatawa ko. Kasi she's not like in real life. Hindi siya nagtataray sa'kin. Ni hindi niya ko napalo, pero first taping day pa lang namin, sinampal na niya ko. Ang lakas! Tinotoo. Pero kung ako ang sasampal sa kanya, di ko yata magagawa."
Does Jean give tips to Jennica? "Sa ibang tao, it's easier to say 'I think it'd be better kung ganito ang atake mo', but with my daughter, I don't want to meddle kasi I want her to rely on her natural talent," she says. "I'm not the type of mom na porke we're both actresses, pangungunahan ko siya kasi I've seen her and she's good. Hindi siya nagpapaiwan kahit sinong kaeksena niya. Ang nakaka-tense dito, yung mga eksenang nag-aaway kami dahil it hasn't happened in real life kasi mabait naman siyang anak."
Is her role as Alvina something she can identify with? "In the sense na may dalawa kong anak na magkaiba rin ang tatay. E, si Alvina, tatlo ang anak na tatlo rin ang tatay. So kulang pa ko ng isa in real life. And in real life, I never deprived any father of my kids ng rights sa anak nila. Dito, ayaw ko kay Ariel Rivera, dad ni Jennica, kasi poor siya at pinabilanggo ko pa siya."
Jennica adds that her mom really has more suitors than her. "Talbog nga ako sa kanya. Ako, meron din, non-showbiz, pero walang fireworks, e. Unlike noong kami ni Mart (Escudero), kinikilig ako. Now, wala, e."
