DIRECTOR LINNETH ZURBANO OF VIVAMAX' 'AFAM'

VIVAMAX NEW movie is about Pinays who fall in love with foreigners, ‘Afam’ (which means foreigner.)

There’s no doubt that the lives of so many Pinays have become more comfortable after they got an afam for their partner.

You go to the US, Australia and Europe and you meet Pinays whose lives (and also the lives of their families in the Philippines) have improved because of their afam partners.

Exploring this concept of looking for an ideal foreigner partner is the theme of “Afam”.

This is the full length film directorial debut of Linneth Zurbano who had worked mainly on TV as assistant director or second unit director.

“Malapit sa puso ang subject kasi certified Afamista talaga ako, so marami akong mase-share tungkol dito,” she says.

“I can share kung ano ang advantages and disadvantages ng having a relationship with an afam. Andami kong inputs sa bawat eksena.”

It’s the first time for her to work with all her actors.

“I’m very collaborative. I explain the scene to them and block it and ask them if they’re comfortable, like may scene kaming threesome sina Robb Ginto, Jela Cuenca and Nico Locco, kasi doon magbe-base si Nicco kung sino sa dalawa ang pipiliin niya.

"I made sure na game ba sila and we did it in the pool of a resort not in a bed. They’re all very cooperative kasi we shot it at night, malamig, giginawin sila, mahaba ang shoot kasi lumigid talaga sila sa buong pool.

"And I’m very happy that they’re all very cooperative para ma-achieve yung eksena.”

‘AFAM’ stars Jela Cuenca, Robb Guinto, and Manila-based foreign actor, Nico Locco.

In the story, Hazel (Jela) and Daisy (Robb) are friends and co-workers at a hotel resort.  They are very different from each other.

Hazel is sweet and a bit shy, while Daisy is tough and more aggressive, but both are ready to all in love.

Hazel dreams of having a complete family that she never had.

As for Daisy, all she wants is to have someone take her away from her family who treats her like a milking cow.

With the help of their former neighbor, Mirabelle (Katya Santos), who got herself a rich Italian husband, Hazel and Daisy discover the fun of online dating and Afam-hunting.

Hazel and Daisy soon find a chatmate, not knowing that they are chatting with the same man who is using two names: JJ and Jamey (Nico Locco).

JJ/Jamey presents himself as charming and a perfect gentleman, but in reality, he is a cunning scammer.

When he comes to the Philippines to meet his girls, Jela and Robb are shocked to know they’re sharing the same guy.

Despite Nicco's lying to them, Hazel and Daisy still consider being with him.

The two good friends have now become great rivals.

When will they realize that he is not worth it? Or will JJ/Jamey actually redeem himself and become the Prince Charming that the girls are dreaming of?

But who will he choose? Ultimately, after all the trouble, will the girls go for love or friendship?

Find out when you watch “AFAM” when it starts streaming on May 5, 2023.  It also stars Alexa Ocampo, PJ Rosario, Roi Alonte, and Giselle Sanchez.
