KRIS BERNAL ENJOYS HER RETURN TO GMA-7 IN HER FIRST FULL VILLAIN ROLE AS A WIFE WHO MURDERS HER HUSBAND IN 'ARTIKULO 247'

KRIS BERNAL is no longer a strictly GMA star as her contract as a Kapuso was not renewed in 2020.

But she is glad that GMA still got her now to do a new teleserye with them, “Artikulo 247”, an article in the revised penal code about killing your own spouse that applies to her character in the show.

“Kontrabida yung role ko and this is my first full villain role,” she says. “Kasi nagkontrabida rin ako sa ‘Impostora’ but then, ako rin yung gumanap ng lead character as I played dual roles.

"Dito, ako talaga ang tinik sa buhay ni Rhian Ramos. I start as Claire, wife ni Victor Silayan as Alfred, pero hiwalay na kami kasi ako ang unang nangaliwa.”

The problem starts when she wants to reconcile with Victor.

“Yes, gusto kong makipagbalikan sa kanya, but he’s now with Rhian as Jane and he rejected me. Binalak kong patayin si Rhian. Sasaksakin ko siya, but humarang si Victor at siya ang napatay ko.

"Artikulo 247 exiles me to another place, but then babalik ako with another identity as Carmen and aakitin ko naman si Mark Herras.”

So how did she like playing a villain role?

“I enjoyed it. Gandang-ganda ako sa role ko kasi ibang-iba siya. Before, ako ang inaapi, sinasaktan. This time, akong nang-aapi, nananakit and kahit ako, na-surprised ako na may emotions palang hindi ko na-experienced before pero nailabas ko rito.

"Aba, kaya ko pala silang gawin! The role of Claire-Carmen really put my acting skills to a test kasi lahat bago for me. But I’m very thankful that I got to explore them here and puro magagaling ang kasama ko so I really enjoyed working with all of them.”

Her catfight scenes with Rhian Ramos seem very realistic. Did they get to hurt each other?

“Yes, hindi mo maiiwasan kasi ayaw naming dayain at gusto naming maging makatotohanan. Accidentally, nagkakasakitan kayo sa sabunutan, kalmutan, sampalan.

"Alam ko nasasaktan ko siya, but nagso-sorry ako agad after. Ako nga, umuuwi ako sa hotel room naming andami kong pasa. E it’s part talaga ng trabaho namin. Wala namang personalan yun.”

She is newly married. How did her husband Perry Choi react when she went away for lock in taping just a couple of months after their wedding and she did kissing scenes with other guys in the show?

“Yes, bagong kasal kami when this was offered to me. What’s nice about my husband is he’s very supportive. E, dito nga sa show, bale tatlo yung guys na nakahalikan ko, sina Mark Herras, Mike Tan and Victor Silayan. Mas marami pa ang halikan ko sa kanila kaysa sa asawa ko.

"But si Perry, hindi siya nakikialam sa trabaho ko, e. Alam naman niyang I just follow what the script and the director asked of me. So, sige gagawin ko yan. Grabe siya, sobrang spoiled ko. Lahat ng kailanganin ko, dinadala niya sa taping.  I can say na happy wife, happy life ako.”

We notice the show has a lot of court scenes.

“Yes, kasi nademanda ako rito and nilitis ako sa hukuman. Our director, Jerron Lee Monroy, na direktor ko rin before sa ‘Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko’, did a lot of research about the right legal procedures, the correct terms and technicalities inside the court, pati about article 247 that is tackled here. Everything is authentic at hindi kami mapapahiya sa inyo.”

Don’t miss “Artikulo 247” starting this Monday, with the theme song, “Ang Bukas ay Para sa Akin”, sung by Maricris Garcia, directed by Jorron Lee Monroy.
