GMA TELEBABAD has another certified hit in their new whodunit suspense-drama, “Widow’s Web”.

It’s trouncing all its rivals in the ratings game and it looks like viewers are properly intrigued by its mystery premise. The story starts with the murder of Ryan Eigenmann as Alexander Sagrado, heir to the wealthy Sagrado family fortune.

He and his sister Barbara, played by Carmina Villaroel, are rivals in their desire to control their family’s business empire so Barbara is the first to be suspected as the killer.

The show tries to explore the world of the “alta sociedad” and this is amply represented in the lavish, nouveau riche mansion of the Sagrados.

Carmina delivers a topnotch performance playing the lead role of the snooty elder sister who feels so entitled.

She is sore that it’s her brother who’s their company’s president and not her so it’s not surprising that she has a personal motive in wanting to get rid of Ryan as Alexander.

“The show is something different kasi most of the characters are not just the usual black or white na puede agad ma-identify ng viewers kung sino ang mabuti at sino ang masama,” says Carmina.

“Dito, most characters are gray kaya halos lahat, mapagsususpetsahan na may pansarili nilang motibo to murder Alexander. Pag-iisipin talaga ang viewers in solving the mystery of who the real killer is.”

Carmina as Barbara is really quite a puzzle: is she good or is bad? She tries her best to befriend her sister in law, Ashley Ortega as Jackie Sagrado, but obviously, she is scheming something else and cannot be fully trusted.

“We’re really happy sa magandang reception ng primetime viewers sa ‘Widow’s Web’,” adds Carmina. “The feedback on the internet is very encouraging dahil nagagandahan sila sa takbo ng story.

"Lahat ay curious malaman kung sino ba talaga ang pumatay kay Alexander pero malayo pa pop ang itatakbo ng kuwento, kaya basta huwag kayong bibitaw.”

Ashley Ortega is also enjoying in playing her role as Jackie Sagrado, the sexy wife of Alexander who has a valid motive to kill him and she is already sick and tired of her husband’s controlling and domineering ways.

“When the show was first offered to me, I was wondering, kaya ko ba ito?” says Ashley. “Kasi this is my most mature role to date as the wife of a murder victim na isa sa mapagbibintangan sa mga pumatay sa kanya.

"But I felt hindi naman puedeng puro safe and teeny bopper roles na lang lagi ang gagampanan ko.”

After asking the opinion of family and friends, she decided to accept her role.

“Yes, I felt that I should welcome the challenge as it’s a good opportunity to show that I’ve also matured as an actress in doing delicate dramatic scenes.

"And now, I’m not regretting it at all kasi very favorable ang comments na nababasa ko not only about me but the whole show itself.

"At higit sa lahat, we are all so proud kasi laging mataas ang rating namin at talo yung mga katapat namin, so that encourages us all the more to give our best.”

The other suspect in the story is Edgar Allan Guzman as Frank Querubin, the husband of Pauline Mendoza as Elaine. He became a prime suspect when was seen at the scene of the crime.

In the next episodes, watch our as more people would turn out to be suspects also, including Bernard Palanca as William and Vaness del Moral as his flamboyant wife Hillary, and Anjay Anson as Jed, the son of Carmina.

Don’t miss each exciting episode of “Widow’s Web”, seen right after “First Lady”, weeknight on GMA Telebabad.
