HERE’S THE LIST OF WINNERS IN THE 2021 METRO MANILA FILMFEST AWARDS NIGHT

LIKE WHAT we predicted in our review of “Big Night”, the dark comedy about a gay beautician who wants to avoid being a victim of Operation Tokhang or extra judicial killing won most of the awards at the Metro Manila Filmfest Awards Night held at Samsung MOA on Monday night, December 27, 2021.

It harvested a total of 8 awards including First best picture, best actor for Christian Bables, best supporting actor for John Arcilla,

best screenplay and best director for Jun Lana, best cinematography for Carlo Mendoza, best musical score for Teresa Barrozo and Gender Sensitivity Award.

“Kun Maupay Man It Panahon”, an arty film about the aftermath of the Yolanda typhoon in Tacloban City, won a total of 7 awards.

This includes second best picture, Gatpuno Antonio VIllegas Memorial Award, best actress for Charo Santos Concio, best supporting actress for total newcomer Rans Rifol,

special jury prize for Daniel Padilla, best production design for Juan Manuel Alcazaren and best visual effects for Mofac Creative Works.

“A Hard Day”, an action-drama which is a remake of a Korean hit, won Third best picture award and best sound for Albert Idioma.

“Huling Ulan sa Tag-araw” won best original song for “Umulan Man o Umaraw”. “Huwag Kang Lalabas” won the best float award.

Veteran actress Rosa Rosal was given the Manay Ichu Vera Perez Memorial Award, while Natatanging Gawad MMFF were given to Danilo Lim and Bienvenido Lumbera.

Here’s praying that winning so many awards will help kindle the interest of the moviegoing public to go to the theaters and watch “Big Night” and “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” to help its producers recover their cost of production.
