YAM CONCEPCION made waves playing the role of Jericho Rosales’ unfaithful wife in the hit TV series, “Halik”. Now, she stars in a new movie, a horror flick entitled “Night Shift”, produced by Viva Films and written and directed by her namesake, Yam Laranas, who did hit horror films before like “Sigaw”, “The Road” and “Aurora”.

Yam is also set to star in a new TV drama, “Love Thy Woman”, where she shares topbilling with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim. So what’s her role in “Night Shift”?

“I play Jessie, isang medtech assigned sa graveyard shift sa morgue ng isang hospital where I’m the assistant of the head pathologist played by Michael de Mesa,” she says. “One rainy night, hindi dumating yung karelyebo ko kasi baha, kaya hindi rin ako makauwi, and I’m all alone in the morgue.

"Then I start hearing strange sounds and I had the feeling that the cadavers are moving. I keep thinking it’s the day of final judgment when people are rising from the dead.”

Direk Yam Laranas says she is his first and only choice for the role. “It’s my first horror movie and when I learned he’s directing it, I got excited, pati friends ko, kasi fans kami ng horror movies niya, from ‘Sigaw’ pa. When he offered the project to me, sabi niya, it’s cerebral horror that happens in only one night and in only one place, the morgue nga.

"Kakaiba talaga itong ‘Night Shift’ sa lahat ng movies na nagawa ko na. Bale ba, the whole time we shot it for 12 days, I had fever kasi may sinus problem ako. Yung character ko, hindi mo sure if she’s really experiencing all the terrifying things happening to her or she’s just imagining them.”

Aside from Michael de Mesa, also supporting Yam in the movie are Irma Adlawan, Mercedes Cabral, Epy Quizon, Soliman Cruz and Ruby Ruiz. This opens in theaters on January 22. Yam’s career is really doing well as she also just did a show in iWant with Joseph Marco and will also do another series for Star Creatives, but her lovelife is also thriving well.

Her boyfriend, Miguel CuUnjieng, is working in New York and they have an LDR (long distance relationship) which is surprisingly working very well.

“Five years na kami at okay naman so far, carry naman,” she says. “He was here during the holidays then we went to Hawaii muna together then to New York. Tapos sinamahan niya ako pauwi rito. He’s still here but he will soon leave back for the U.S. Sayang nga hindi niya mapapanood itong ‘Night Shift’. Excited pa naman siyang panoorin ito.”
