YEARENDER 2: REALIZATIONS ABOUT THE PAST YEAR - UNLIKELY PAIRINGS DON'T HELP A MOVIE AT THE BOX OFFICE

OTHER REALIZATIONS THIS YEAR: That the unlikely pairing of Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez in the hit 2017 movie, “Kita Kita”, is just a fluke. All other movies shown after this that attempted to pair two stars with no previous film together before turned out to be flops, some are first day-last day in theaters.

Examples are Jake Cuenca and Kris Bernal in “KontrAdisyon”, Jasmine Curtis Smith and Ruru Madrid in “Cara X Jagger”, Janine Gutierrez and Enchong Dee in “Elise”, Xian Lim and Louise de los Reyes in “Hanggang Saan” filmed in Japan no less, Karla Estrada and Jobert Austria in “Pamilya Blandina”, Carlo Aquino and Nadine Lustre in “Ulan”, Myrtle Sarrosa and Teddy Corpuz in “Papa Pogi”, Gelli de Belen and Bayani Agbayani in “Pansamantagal”,

Arci Munoz and JM de Guzman in “Las Fool Show”, Arjo Atayde and Jessie Mendiola in “Stranded”, Jodi Sta. Maria and Gabby Concepcion in “Man and Wife”, Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto in “Between Maybes” also filmed in Japan, Jerome Ponce and Jane Oineza in “Finding You”, David Licauco and Shaira Diaz in “Because I Love You”, Glaiza de Castro and TJ Trinidad in “Letters to Happy”, Nadine Lustre and Sam Concepcion in “Indak”,

Khalil Ramos and Andrea Brillantes in “The Ghosting”, Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia in “Last Song Syndrome”, Maris Racal and Inigo Pascual in “I M Ellenya L”, Dennis Trillo and Alyssa Muhlach in “Hellcome Home”, JC de Vera and Roxanne Barcelo in “Love is Love”, Epy Quizon and KZ Tandingan in “The Art of Ligaw”, Louise de los Reyes and Ivan Padilla in “My Bakit List”, Rocco Nacino and Miles Ocampo in “Write About Love”. The first thing any producer should ask is: would the viewers want to watch our movie with these stars in it?

Many neophyte directors debuted with fairly promising films: JE Tiglao in “Metamorphosis”, Rae Red in “Babae at Baril”, Arden Rod Condez in “John Denver Trending”, Crisanto Aquino in “Write About Love”, Joji Alonso in “Belle Douleur”, Jordan Sebastian in “The Art of Ligaw”, Pertee Brinas in “Letters to Happy”, Daniel Palacio in “Pailalim”, Boy2 Quizon in “I’m Ellenya L” and Darryl Yap who did the big commercial hit, “Jowable”.
