KEN CHAN admits he was totally surprised when his team up with Rita Daniela in “My Special Tatay” last year became immensely popular with the public. “I was originally paired with Arra San Agustin pero mas kinagat ng tao yung tambalan namin ni Rita. We were first called BoBrey love team, based sa names namin sa show na Boyet and Aubrey. But now, they call us RitKen, based on our real names.”

And now, they topbill the new primetime show, “One of the Baes”, that starts airing tonight. “I’m so happy for Rita kasi unti-unti na niyang naabot ang kanyang mga pangarap and I’m happy rin na I’m part of her life and the success in her career that she’s now getting.”

Rita says she feels the same way for Ken. “Masaya rin akong bahagi ka ng buhay ko. You’re so full of energy and you share it with other people with your contagious smile, so just stay the way you are.”

Ken started as one of those countless wannabes in the late Kuya Germs’ “Walang Tulugan” but he has now really managed to be one of the Kapuso networks top leading men, starting with his trans role in “Destiny Rose”, then his romcom with Barbie Forteza “Meant to Be” and with “My Special Tatay”. Ken doesn’t hide the fact that he works hard as he is the breadwinner in their family that faced a big challenge when his dad was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus.

“He’s okay now, after 12 chemotherapy sessions. He’s really getting better and it’s a big blessing for us. But nakaalalay pa rin kami sa kanya and, every month, he has a check up to make sure he’ll remain cancer free.”

That’s why he feels so blessed that aside from “One of the Baes”, he has another ongoing show, “The Clash”, where he and Rita play the journey hosts of the contestants in their quest to be the competition’s big winner.

“Yes, mapapanood po kami ni Rita ngayon every night of the week sa GMA-7. From Monday to Friday, you can watch us as Grant and Jowalyn sa ‘One of the Baes’, then on Saturday and Sunday, mapapanood naman ninyo kami as ourselves sa ‘The Clash’ habang sinusundan namin ang bawat struggle and challenge faced by the clashers in the show. Lahat ito, very big blessing for and I want to thank the Lord for all these blessings sa career at sa buhay ko.”

He’s so happy to be part of a feel good show like “One of the Baes”. “It will make sure that viewers will have a good night’s sleep after watching our show kasi it’s so relaxing, very entertaining. I’m glad GMA gave Rita and I the chance to work with top actors in the show like Roderick Paulate, Amy Austria, Melanie Marquez, Jestoni Alarcon and the rest of the cast.

"Ang gagaling nilang lahat and we’re learning so much from them, lalo na kay Tito Roderick na maraming tips sa amin on how to do effective comedy. Blessing talagang makasama sila sa isang show.”
