ALLEN DIZON used to avoid accepting roles that will require him to play a gay and wear women’s clothes. “I accepted the movie ‘Latay’ where I was shown in drag but I’m not a gay in that movie,” he says. “It’s part of the Aguman Sandok Festival in Minalin, Pampanga, where men parade in the streets habang nakadamit babae. Unlike dito sa special anniversary episode ng ‘Magpakailanman’ na ‘Kailan Naging Ama ang Isang Babae’, drag queen talaga yung role ko. It’s our tribute to the LGBT Pride Month now.”

So why did he accept it? “My manager, Dennis Evangelista, sent me the script. Sabi raw ng director, si Zig Dulay, ako lang yung choice niya for the role. Gusto raw niya yung nuances ng acting ko na hindi nago-overacting. So I read the script at nagandahan ako. I never met the character I played but I saw him sa Facebook where he uses the name Roxanne D’Salles, but his real name is Rolando. He had two kids with different women before he came out of the closet. Yung unang karelasyon niya sa MPK is played by Jenny Miller. Nagkaroon ng terminal illness yung son nila. Tapos, nalaman niyang may isa pa pala siyang anak through social media, named after him, kay April Gustilo. In real life, nagpa-sex change operation na siya.”

He is shown as a drag queen in several scenes “MPK”. “Maraming beses akong nakadamit babae. Tuwing papalitan ang costume and makeup ko, it takes about one hour kaya matagal gawin. It’s my most demanding role on mainstream TV so far. Ang gusto ko lang, walang scenes requiring me na nakikipag-make love sa kapwa ko lalaki. Ayoko kasi ng ganoon, although may love interest ako rito, played by Clint Bondad (former BF of Miss Universe Catriona Gray who’s now a contract star of GMA-7) as my lover. I really hope that I’m able to give justice to the role I played.”

This “MPK” special anniversary episode will be shown this Saturday night, but before that, Allen will also be seen on ABS-CBN in this afternoon’s episode of “Ipaglaban Mo” entitled “Utang” where he plays a usurer who ruthlessly beats up the debtors who cannot pay him back, with teen actor Jairus Aquino as one of his victims and Isabel Rivas as the mom. Allen was also just seen in a recent episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” with Pokwang so he’s really in demand on television these days.
On the big screen, aside from “Latay” where he plays the battered husband of Lovi Poe, he has also finished a new dramatic movie with Judy Ann Santos, “Mindanao”, where he plays a Muslim soldier and it’s intended to be an entry in the Metro Manila Filmfest this December.

“I also had two movies shown back to back sa Shanghai International Filmfest just a few days ago,” Allen adds. “Kababalik ko lang from China noong Wednesday night. First time ko to have entries in Shanghai so I took my wife and kids with me para makapamasyal namin kami roon as a family. We first went to Beijing to see the Great Wall then we took the bullet train to Shanghai.”

His two films shown in Shanghai were “Persons of Interest” directed by Ralston Jover and the crime drama, “Alpha, The Right to Kill”, directed by Brillante Mendoza. “Unang ipinalabas ang ‘Persons of Interest’ then 20 minutes later, ang ‘Alpha’. It’s good magkalapit lang ang venues or theatres where they were shown, kaya hindi ako nahirapang lumipat for the screening of ‘Alpha’ na talagang ang daming foreigners na naging curious during the Q&A. It’s about the fight against the drug problem sa bansa natin so ang daming political questions. I told them na inspite of Operation Tokhang, rampant pa rin ang drug use and trafficking dito sa atin.”
