Star Magic Workshop Introduces Its Teachers For Summer 2019, With A New Class For Conversational Tagalog Proficiency

STAR MAGIC WORKSHOP TEACHERS UNDER DIREK RAHYAN CARLOS
THE STAR MAGIC WORKSHOP is the nearest thing to a formal acting school locally offering acting, voice and dance training. It’s headed by Director Rahyan Carlos who started with GMA Artist Center and was the mentor of the first batch of Starstruck winner. He stayed with GMA for three years.

He left when Regal offered him to direct and he specialized in horror flicks like “Pamahiin” with Dennis Trillo and Marian Rivera, “Shake Rattle & Roll” and “Hide and Seek”. ABS-CBN then got him to do a horror teleserye for them, “Florinda”, starring Maricel Soriano.

“They learned I did acting workshops for GMA and they asked me to conduct it for them,” he says. “My first students were discoveries from Pinoy Big Brother and Star Circle Quest. Then I did workshops for Star Magic Batch 16 in 2008, which included Enrique Gil. That started it. I studied with Hollywood acting coach Ivanna Chubbuck and that revolutionized my teaching techniques.”

In a special presscon, Direk Rahyan officially his teachers in the Star Magic Workshop for Summer 2019. The adult acting classes are under Carla Martinez and Rubi Rubi, with Lynette Concepcion, Heart de Guzman and Air Paz Pablico. The kids’ acting classes are under Edna Mae Landicho and HB Benitez. The dance classes are divided into three different genres: jazz funk, hiphop and urban, led by Nesh Janiola of Hotlegs, Brion Lim of Manouvres Ignite and Geejay Romano. The voice classes are led by Philippine Madrigal Singer alums Luningning San Jose, Julie Anne Reyes and Roland Roldan.

They also offer a new course: Conversational Tagalog Class for Non Tagalog Speakers. This specifc class under Weena Sadorra aims to improve the students’ Tagalog proficiency, specially the half-breeds from abroad who want to try their luck in local showbiz. The class will be available to public work shoppers starting this summer.

The workshops will now be held in the newly-renovated training halls for the Summer work shoppers. In line with its consistent pioneering of innovations in talent management and development, Star Magic Workshops is also launching the Artist Registry in collaboration with ABS-CBN Production teams very soon. Star Magic Workshoppers, who has shown notable aptitude and impeccable discipline and passion, would have the chance to be selected by Direk Rahyan and Mr. Johnny Manahan for the soon-to-launch platform aimed at providing acting opportunities within ABS-CBN shows.

“We want to reintroduce to the public that we are number 1 in the Philippines in terms of training for the performance arts such as acting, voice and dance,” said Direk Rahyan. “In fact we have recorded a total of 1,400 enrollees last year alone.”

Direk Rahyan is the only certified Chubbuck Technique teacher behind the molding of some of the most sought after and award-winning actors of today such as Julia Barretto, Jake Cuenca, Anna Luna, EJ Falcon, Alora Sasam, Jessy Mendiola, Christian Bables, Arjo Atayde, Paulo Avelino and Joshua Garcia, among others.

More than the new elements in the Star Magic Summer 2019 Workshops, the same exclusive, focused and international-grade lessons through the help of the award-winning and seasoned teachers remain as its core.

Compared to other trainings, Star Magic Workshops’ are not only comprehensive but are also exclusive to only a limited number of participants, thereby allowing the teachers to focus on each students’ progress.

Those who aspire to be trained by professional and practicing teachers in acting, dance, voice and language are all welcome to join the workshops. Enrollment will be on a first come, first serve basis. Registration starts on March 16 and 17.
