Mariel De Leon Wants To Pursue A Career In Singing, Now Special Guest Of Ogie Alcasid In His Valentine Concert

MARIEL DE LEON is a special guest in the Valentine concert of Ogie Alcasid, “Master of Love”, at Newport Theatre in Resorts World on Valentine’s Day and she is excited to sing with Ogie the love song, “All I Ask of You”, from the musical “Phantom of the Opera”. “I was the one who chose it and I’m glad Sir Ogie agreed to sing it with me,” she says.

After “Ang Panday” with Coco Martin, she has done two new movies, “Latay” and “Patayin Mo sa Sindak si Barbara”, but she says she has realized that she really loves singing more than acting. That she is a good singer is not surprising since her own dad, Christopher de Leon, and her aunt, Pinky de Leon, are also good singers.

“I want to study classical voice, preferably abroad,” she says. “I’m really partial to classical and jazz music. Late bloomer ako sa music, e. Back then, I still didn’t know what I really wanted to do. Nag-join ako sa Bb. Pilipinas, pero ayoko nang mag-beauty queen. Ayoko nang mag-diet at ayoko na ng mga question and answer. Now, I’m more sure of what I really want, which is to focus on music.”

“I think that’s good,” says Ogie Alcasid. “Alam mo kung ano ang gusto mo at saan ka magiging mas comfortable. That’s a really good way to start. So just keep on honing your craft.”

Mariel will be going to New York to look for a good school. Once she is accepted, she would have to stay there for four years to complete her music course. If ever, “Latay” and “Patayin sa Sindak” would be her last films. What’s her role in these movies?

“In ‘Latay’, ako yung first girlfriend ni Allen Dizon, who’s the battered husband of Lovi Poe. Nagselos sa’kin si Lovi at sinampal ako nang dalawang beses. Sa ‘Patayin sa Sindak’, I play the ghost, but hindi natapos ang movie because our director (Chris Ad. Castillo) passed after a heart attack. I think they’ll get another director to finish it.”
