JC De Vera On Angel Locsin's Alleged Walkout On The Set Of 'The General's Daughter'

JC DE VERA started in showbiz in 2003 as a teen star on GMA-7 in “Click”. He later did lead roles with Yasmien Kurdi, Rhian Ramos and Heart Evangelista, then moved to TV5 in 2010 where he also did lead roles. In 2013, he transferred to ABS-CBN where he did one soap after another. He now plays the role of Ethan del Fierro in “The General’s Daughter”.

Will he eventually be Angel Locsin’s leading man? “Honestly, I don’t know,” he says. “We really are not aware where the story will be going. Paulo Avelino is also in the cast and we don’t know kung kanino mapupunta si Angel in the end.”

JC just won the best supporting actor of the year award from the Guillermon Mendoza Memorial Awards for his effective performance as Kim Chiu’s unfaithful boyfriend in “One Great Love” and he’s very much deserving. Earlier, he also won the QCinema best actor award for his portrayal of a rich macho gay who becomes a victim of our slow criminal justice system and spends several years in prison after being accused of being a drug pusher. He was also very effective as a hitman who falls in love with a crime lord’s kept woman in “Tisay”, an entry in CInema One Filmfest.

“I’m just thankful that aside from having regular teleseryes, I get to do at least one movie a year,” he says. “I feel blessed as I’m given the chance to do what I love doing, which is acting, my passion. But when I get older, say in my 50’s, I want to slow down and just devote more time to my family.”

He enjoys being a hands-on dad to his daughter, Lana, who turns one year old on April 12. “When she wakes up in the morning, kinakalabit niya kami ng mom niya, at kahit na puyat ako from overnight taping, I wake up just to spend some time with her. Siguro in 3 or 4 years, we’ll try to have a boy naman.”

His partner’s name is Rikah Cruz and he’s quick to point out that she’s not related to the musical Cruz clan in showbiz. “No, she doesn’t sing or dance. She works in their family’s construction business.”

What endears her to him? “Sa lahat ng naging girlfriends ko, she’s the one who plans her future and knows what she wants to achieve. E, before, happy go lucky lang ako in my past relationships. You just live for the moment. Siya, she really wants to have a family and also be successful in business. Siya, may direction talaga.”

Do they intend to face the altar soon? “We’ve talked about it, but nothing concrete yet. Maybe in 2021 or 2022. We want to really prepare for it well.”

The alleged walkout of Angel Locsin on the set of “General’s Daughter” was really talked about. Did he see it? “No. When it happened, natutulog ako. I just heard about it and I don’t know the reason. Nobodyy really knew what happened. Bumalik naman siya agad the next taping day niya. Kahapon nga, she’s so happy on the set and she bought halo-halo for everyone.”
