Yassi Pressman & Louise De Los Reyes Fight Over Sam Concepcion In Viva's 'Para Sa Broken Hearted'

YASSI PRESSMAN, Louise de los Reyes and Shy Carlos are cast all together for the first time in Viva Films’ new romance flick, “Para sa Broken Hearted”. Yassi and Louise have something in common. They both started with the Kapuso Network then they opted to be managed by Viva Artists who brought them over to ABS-CBN. Shy is a homegrown talent by Viva. So how is it working with each other?

“We all enjoyed each other’s company,” says Yassi. “The movie portrays three different kinds of women in love at maraming makaka-relate dito.”

The movie is the directorial debut of Digo Ricio. Most writers at its presscon are asking: Zino ziya? Who’s he?

Well, the lifeblood of the film industry lies in the discovery of new talented filmmakers and Digo has paid his dues before Boss Vic del Rosario of Viva gave him this big break in directing. A fine arts graduate from UP, he started in showbiz in 2005 as a production designer or PD.

“Si Direk Joyce Jimenez ang kumuha at nag-train sa akin in ‘Agent X44’ with Vhong Navarro,” he
says. “Kasabay ko si Direk Irene Villamor na unang nabigyan ng break in directing ‘Camp Sawi’. I became the PD of various commercials, TV shows and films. Then napagod na ako, burnout, and sabi ni Direk Ruel Bayani sa’kin, magdirek ka na rin. So I started directing episodes in ‘Ipaglaban Mo’, then I also helped in directing ‘Wildflower’, and ‘One Song’ for Digital Viva. Now, heto, movie na.”

Was he the one who assembled the cast of “Para sa Broken Hearted”? “No, actually, nang kunin ako ni Boss Vic, nabuo na nila ang lineup ng cast. And I’m glad that except for Louise, lahat sila, nakasama ko na before sa TV or sa movies. Nasulat na rin ni Rinca Romero ang script based sa novel ni Marcelo Santos. As the director, inupdate ko na lang ang material kasi 1990s pa ang setting nito. Ginawa kong now. The novel is also told in a linear manner. Binago ko rito, I made it more playful and divided the film into three segments where the stories and characters intertwine.”

The film is about three different kinds of love represented by the female stars. “In the first segment, ‘Emoterang Love’, Louise plays Kath, who quickly recovers from a failed by relationship by simply getting another boyfriend. In the second one, ‘First Love’, Shy plays Jackie, who’s in love with love and has very high expectations sa karelasyon niya. She falls for Marco Gumabao as RJ, na na-disappoint naman sa kanya because she can be so demanding. The last episode is ‘True Love’, Yassi plays Shalee, who yearns for a simple kind of love na nakuha naman niya kay Sam Concepcion na siya ang nanligaw. But complications occur when Louise gets into the picture and they become a love triangle when they fight over Sam. Bale lahat ng characters dito, naging brokenhearted.”

How did he find directing Yassi, Louise, Shy, Sam and Marco? “They’re all very cooperative. I’m not the kind of director na ituturo sa kanila how to enact a scene. I just describe to them the emotions and ask them how they’ll treat it. Kapag di ko gusto, di ulitin, but I also respect how they want to execute it and we meet halfway.”

“Para sa Broken Hearted” opens in theaters on October 3. Here’s hoping that Direk Digo will be as successful as other directors who started as production designers, like Peque Gallaga, Mel Chionglo, Jeffrey Jeturian and Brillante Mendoza.
