Judy Ann Santos Goes Out Her The Box And Her Comfort Zone To Play The Wife Of A Closet Queen In The Gay Comedy 'Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes'

JUDY ANN SANTOS’ last film was the Cinemalaya entry, “Kusina”, an indie film. She’s now back doing a mainstream film, “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes”, a co-production between Star, Quantum Films and IdeaFirst that opens on January 17. She and Angelica Panganiban play the title roles of two wives who discover the deep dark secrets of their closet queen husbands, Joross Gamboa and JC De Vera. She admits she feels tense and nervous with her comeback movie.

“Ewan ko ba, siguro, hindi ako that confident sa sarili ko,” she says. “I know we have a good movie, pero di ako confident kasi iba na yung viewers ngayon compared sa viewers noon dahil ang bilis magpalit ng trends, ng panlasa ng tao. Mas sanay rin ako sa drama. E, dito, nagko-comedy kami. Ang co-star kong si Angelica, hasang-hasa sa ganyan on TV kaya mas gamay na niya ang pagpapatawa. Kapag magkaeksena kami and I watch her, ang galing niya, parang napakadali. E, ako, nangangapa pa. Kasi lately, puro hosting ang ginagawa ko. So naninibago ako, kasi it’s a different feeling. After each take, I ask our director, okay ba yung trabaho ko, I need reassurance, e. Pero happy ako sa pag-challenge sa sarili ko. When I said yes to this project, alam kong ibang-iba ito sa anything na nagawa ko before, I have to go out of my comfort zone, so with the help of Jun Lana and my co-stars, sana naman naitawid ko nang maayos ang role ko.”

She plays Lianne, a cosmetic surgeon ala-Vicki Belo. “Glamorosa ako rito, laging nakabihis, naka-heels, nagi-English. Maganda ang message ng movie about gay relationships. Makakatulong for people to understand more about how gays feel. Kami ni Angelica, initially, we were shocked and angry na yung husbands pala naman, may gay relationship.”

What if her husband Ryan Agoncillo would turn out to be like that and replaces her with another man? “The point there is: niloko ka. Di importante kung sino o ano ang ipinalit sa’yo. The issue is niloko ka dahil meron pala siyang iba at tinarantado ka niya. But as far as my husband is concerned, wala siyang bahid, no? Walang-wala. Sigurado ako diyan.”

Aside from this, Juday has also finished a drama with internationally acclaimed director, Brilliante Mendoza, “Bayang Magiliw”, where she plays the Muslim wife of Allen Dizon.
